I have a AMD Athlon 64bit processor. I am contemplating migrating to Win XP 64bit.

Does any of you run Bf2 under a win xp 64bit system?

I have a Nvidia 6800 graphics card.

have u tried the bf2 forums for advice, remember that you will need
xp 64 drivers for all your devices. In the case of far cry there was a normal patch with 64 bit instructions in it for 64 systems. so it might be worth looking at the  readme for the last patches, and failing that email ea and dice and see what the score is. I know its not much help but thats the route i would take

Just got back from some 64bit forums. Seems there is little point in migrating to a 64bit system now. BF2 doesn't run significantly better under XP 64 than under ordinary XP.

It is possible to run BF2 on a XP 64 system, though.

Until they start to release games that can take advantage of the 64-bit architecture, I'll stick with my 32 bit system on my 64 bit capable rig (seems like a waste, doesn't it?).

It can also be a pain to find 64 bit hardware drivers. My guess is that it wil be a lot easer as soon as the game developers start making games (or patches for games) that can be run under XP 64 or the likes.

Thanx for pointing me in the right direction, Sulky!  :)

Steam has released a patch to utilise the AMD64s architechture, i wondered how much of a difference it makes but i still run 32bit windows.

I think the patch is for CS: Source and DoD: Source.

a guy who comes to our lans had 64 and could never get anything to work, after months of abuse he went back to 32

I run xp64 with games (though I've not tried BF2 yet, not gotten around to it after the new re-build) and they all run fine. However, as they run on a 32 bit emulator they will run with a performance loss. Going on 3dmark05 it is around 15 - 20% loss in performance due to the emulation.

However, if there are 64 bit versions of the game code (such as valve have just released) then you shouldn't see any loss in performance.

As for drivers, they really aren't a problem any more. All of the hardware I have I've been able to get 64 bit drivers for. Even my Logitech FF joystick comes with 64 bit drivers :D The only hardware that seems to be slacking in the driver department for 64 bit drivers are printers.
