Comp problems

Okay, before going on holiday I shut down my computer normally and wanted to restart it the next morning for checking mail but it didn't work.
I didn't have the time to check it out untill I got back now.
It seems that when I start my computer I don't hear the beeping noise when it starts and it doesnt show anything on the monitor except the green light of the screen flashing on and off. Any suggestions or ideas?

I've checked all the cables and so and all seems fine.
(I know you guys are going to answer with stuff like: Don't put it off then, it's your hax and so).
Any suggestions?

Check that power is reaching the case (are the fans in the PSU running? do you see any flashes from the Hard Disk LED?)
Check that the video cable isn't loose
Check that the video card hasn't been dislodged from its slot (remove re-insert if necessary)
If your video card requires an extra power lead make sure it is securely connected (remove re-insert if necessary)

try reseating your graphics card/s


but if that doesnt work then number of beeps and mobo would help track down the fault,remember  short beeps r about 1/2 sec and long beeps 1 sec long

The comp I had before the this one had a weird thing: If any sort of power loss occurred, that be a power shortage, unplugging of the comp, whatever, it would do the same thing as you describe. I just had to hit the reset button.

That's probably not what's wrong with yours, but I thought I'd mention it anyways - you never know ;)

This one is weird as well, I have to push the start button twice to boot :)

The fans are running. When starting the LED does flash up.
I've checked cables and card and all seems to fit properly/is inserted.
I'll recheck everything though...

Insert alternative graphics card to check vga (from Ricci's comp)

Try one stick of memory (provided you have more than one) at a time to check that memory is sound.

Pray that your mobo hasn't broken!! :ph34r:

Check you have your monitor set to D-Sub not BNC...I've never done that. not me. not at a lan, never.

I did have a memory problem before and installed them 1 by 1. The problem was fixed after that (My computer kept chrashing and restarting itself).
I'll try it this afternoon, thanks for the replies so far guys.

My comp is now being checked as this goes over my head on the problemsolution.
The guy who is checking it for me thinks it's the Mobo  :(.

Hopefully I'll have it back soon. Now I'm off to watch a couple of movies...

Ooo I feel an upgrade coming up!  :dribble:
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

try turning the monitor brightness and contrast back up?
 ;)


I once had a monitor that liked to re-interpret 100% as 0% and sometimes just decided to use 0% anyway on boot up.

Rechecked and it seems to be a memory problem again although I did try Dingo's suggestion. Also an Windowserror keeps popping up.
I'm going to do a complete reinstall of Windows and rebuild from scratch...
Darn computers.
Thanks for the suggestions guys!!

I'll also try and minimize the number of programs I'll put on it and keep it as clean as possible.
