dMw run a Folding@Home team and I know they would appreciate your support.

If you've got a few mins, pop over to this thread and why not download and install the F@H client to run in the background and use your unused CPU cycles for the benefit of medical research?

The dMw Folding Team is just outside the top 100 teams in the World and any extra horse power would be appreciated!!

Sounds interesting.

Have heard about a few similar things earlier (something about "discover inteligent life" or something), but never really gave it a try.  I might just give it a shot now - just to contribute some to dMw for hosting these nice forums for us :)

The 'search for intelligent life' is the SETI project (scanning the skies for looking for extra terrestrial intelligence) and this is also a distributed computing project, however Folding@Home is about medical research.

Put very simple: Most changes in our bodies involve proteins 'folding' or changing their molecular shape when they encounter certain stimuli or catalysts - different shapes enable different behaviours or changes to the body.  The F@H project is trying to understand 'how' proteins fold and more importantly why the occasionally 'misfold'.  It's the misfolds that tend to cause a lot of the medical problems and out of the research comes a better understanding of how to stop proteins misfolding, minimise the damage done by these changes or stop them altogether.  There's a short summary of Folding here if you want to read a little bit more.

I have F@H running in the background all the time on my computers.  I hope this info helps and look forward to seeing you in the dMw F@H teamsheets

So, which brave SoGers have already installed this and joined the team?

Btw, installing it as a service using the console version means it runs quicker and you have no window to bother you :)
