K, my boss seems to get this problem once in a few whiles.
His computer restarts itself.

He's almost got the same specs as mine, here they are:
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
System Manufacturer: Compaq Presario 061
Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1022MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 6200SE TurboCache™

Suggestion/tips please.

Is this after telling it to shut down? I had this problem and had to change a setting in the bios. Haven't a clue what it was though. This it was something to do with the network can on the board.

The second solution which i just remembered hence the edit is a hardware/ driver failure. Basically when something fails a blue screen with all the details of the failure is shown. Anyway if this feature is disabled the computer will auto restart instead of showing the blue screen. The idea is therefore to show the blue screen so you can see the cause of the problem . I'd recommend you update all your drivers and await someone to tell you how to show that blue screen. I know what the blue screen shows but i haven't got a clue how to get it to show when the error occurs instead of simply restarting the computer :).

Other reasons could be a virus which does not allow it to start up. Lastly the problem could be down to a graphics card issue as when i updated an old ati 9600 pro by gecube if i used new drivers it would restart the computer and not stay on the desktop for more that 4 seconds or so.

It just shuts down automaticly and restarts. No blue screen of death or so.
I'll check the powercables and if it's a heat problem or not. Thanks for the tips.

Overheating:  I would lift the panel and make sure there isn't enough dust to make a carpet with in there, especially in any heat sink areas (CPU, etc).

Will check, I myself think it's a heatproblem as in the cabinet the comp is in can quit get hot.
He has a computer thta is around 2-3 months old so that probably wouldn't be the problem.

Roger that.  We have a PC down in the Med Surg area that was put in two months ago.  I pulled the equivalent of a cat out of it yesterday.

If you haven't changed any of the system failure settings, you should be able to see the error by looking in the Event Log. But a better long-term solution is to turn off the automatic reboot so you can actually see the error when it happensâ€"chances are it will tell you enough about itself to let you troubleshoot further. To change the recovery settings to disable automatic rebooting:

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Eh voila, curtesy of Bill himself.

It could be your power supply. I found my computer did the same thing for ages and then finally wouldn't start again. THe mobo power light would be on but the power switch wouldn't start the computer. Replacing the Power unit fixed the problem and my computer stopped crashing.

Worth a look. I know have a 600W psu rather than my shitty broken 300W one.

Okay, he had it again.
Blue screen of death and here's the Error: RQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Also further on on the blue screen: STOP: 0x00000000A and some more numbers.
He has the latest Windows Updates.

Oh, that old chestnut...  Sufficiently vague enough to be a right PITA to track down.

I'd suspect he's got some dodgy RAM, or there's a poorly written device driver that's corrupting the system memory.

Try running memtest86 on his PC.

There was something on the device driver part.
How do I do the memtest86 thing?
