How's he gonna do that if his monitor aint working?

Don't suppose you noted the BSOD error number did you?

I had a similar problem once - new soundcard fixed it for some reason...

Your soundcard fixed the problem with no signal to your monitor? Thats odd.

Well I am using onboard sound so I dont think that should be the problem.

Unfortunately I didnt notice the BSOD number (expect thats the number on the blue screen)

Does the Pc do his POST. That is when he counts the memory, detects the drives etc. Does he beeps (internal speaker) when turning on the PC? My motherboard stopped working to.....got the message "System failed CPU check"... cpu replaced....still not working....  Try your monitor on a other pc to filter out if it is the pc or monitor.

If the monitor isnt geting a signal the next step is to check ur graphics card. Is the fan on the gfx card working ok? Has it come loose at all? Can you swap in another gfx card and try that.

Can you put the graphics card in someone elses machine to test its working.

My first guess would be heat related, either gfx card or motherboard. Games genearly work em harder and hey'll heatup and then shutdown or BSOD on ya.

I have checked the GFX and its not that. I have switched to another card as well as the onboard gfx.
It is not the monitor either. I have tried to connect another monitor to the PC and it still doesnt work

There are no beeps other than the normal single beep when booting.

Just cant come up with whats wrong!

My next jump would be motherboard, is the fan on ur northbridge chip still moving (if its got a fan)? What make/model is your motherboard? How long have you had it etc.

I recall having a MB go on me and it was the northbridge chip that overheated and caused shut down. It would boot up ok but after a few minutes it would die. I know its not the same thing but the buck seems to stop at ut motherboard.

Just tohught I would post this here

Below is a table of the most common AMI, Phoenix and Award BIOS beep codes.
QuoteAMI (American Megatrends International) BIOS Beep Codes.
AMI BIOS uses beeps of the same length and pitch. The error is displayed as a number of beeps. For example, 4 beeps indicated a timer failure.
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Beep (No video) Memory refresh failure Bad memory
2 Beeps Memory parity error Bad memory
3 Beeps Base 64K mem failure Bad memory
4 Beeps Timer not operational Bad motherboard
5 Beeps Processor error Bad processor
6 Beeps 8042 Gate A20 failure Bad CPU or Motherboard
7 Beeps Processor exception Bad processor
8 Beeps Video memory error Bad video card or memory
9 Beeps ROM checksum error Bad BIOS
10 Beeps CMOS checksum error Bad motherboard
11 Beeps Cache memory bad Bad CPU or motherboard

Thanks for all the posts on this thread. I have just ordered a new MB.

AsRock P4Dual-880Pro

Sure hope the MB is the problem. Can anyone tell me if this MB is OK? Just glad it has the possibility of running with dual channel RAM.

Good Luck Nef :)

Well...

If the monitor does not even get a signal during boot up,
it must be hardware related.

Connect your monitor to another computer to see if it works.

Put your graphics card in another computer to see if it works.

If those 2 are working it is most likely your motherbord or memory,
as a defective processor will give you alot of violent bleeping. :)

Edit: Damn to late :P

i was gonna say.. reset your bios. but since youve already ordered a new mobo, nm!

usually theres a jumper on the mobo to reset it, but the quick and dirty way of doing it is to just take the battery out of the motherboard for a few seconds....

suicidal_monkey

If you want to check if it's a heat issue take of the side of the case before you try booting. If you have a desk fan point that into the case. Tried removing and reseating the graphics card? As Jamoe said I'd try an old gfx card aor tey yours in another machine to check that

...hopw the new board works 8)

I have tried to disconnect everything possible and connect to another PC. It all works.

If it was a heat problem it would just start up as normal and when it reaches 90-100 degrees it will shut down. It has nothing to do with the fact that the monitor doesnt work.

I should receive the MB today. Lets hope it solves the problem

Just received my new MB today. Got it all connected and still no signal to screen. I get no beeps at all which I think is kindda odd.

Maybe its the processor :S
