One more for the avoid these people camp!

I recently ordered a "B Grade" Viewsonic monitor from OcUK (vp930 for £235 ... not a bad deal!) and while browsing the rest of their clearance sections found some cheapish Altec lansing iPod speakers (£30 instead of the usual retail price of about £75) so I tacked that onto the order. £10.50 delivery charges are okay by me if the monitor is in good nick, which by all account it should be, especially as it was to come with (at least most of) the full 3 year warranty from Viewsonic... OcUK took the money off my credit card on the 28/04

01/05 (the bank holiday)  I get an email saying my order has been dispatched but the monitor is now missing from the order list... on contacting OcUK I learn that their website is, um, slow, and as such even if a b-grade or clearance item is said to be in stock it may have already been sold. OcUK do not check to see if you would like the remaining items on the list and send whatever is left to send. I am not happy of course because I would not have ordered the speakers at all had I known that I would be charged for a monitor that was out of stock. I am also not happy that I was charged the full amount for the order when they did not have the monitor in stock.

So now I must (try to) arrange a refund for the monitor, the speakers, the postage OcUK charged me, and the postage I will incur in sending the speakers back. I offered to retain the speakers if they refunded the postage costs of 10.52, which I think works out cheapest for everyone, but they seem to want me to send the speakers back again. Go Figure

Not worth the hassle, avoid them if at all possible (I guess order only one item at a time if the deal is really good in the hope they actually have it!). Only plus side has been that they answer their phones and email (online support form submission, no direct email) quite fast. They're not very helpful though.

Wow, that was a scary read. They seem very much out of tune with their customers.

I had a few woes from them a while back because their rma turnaround was poor and they were hard to contact as they didn't answer their phones. I would like to however point you to a section of law that you can use in your defense against them. If you used a credit card that is and not a debit or charge card (it cannot be unfortunately any other payment method) you can get the money back via another route via section 75 of the 1974 Consumer Act. This act states 'that if a purchase has cash price between £100 and £30,000 you're entitled by law to claim from your lender' instead of the company you purchased the product from. This includes fault under warranty or the company going bust leaving you with no support. So this means you can go to your credit card company and not to overclockers themselves to claim the money back. They may not like it and may not be familiar with it but i have done my homework. Doesn't my degree come in handy . Also and another act to mentions one i don't know the exact name and section but states that the consumer must not be in anyway out of pocket. So, they have to by law refund you the money you spent ringing them up aswell as the postage costs so that you are in no shape or form out of pocket. Hope that tip helps :).

Right GM, next lesson. You seemed to have grasped the use of the shift key very well. Now, let's go one step further.

Cut your essays up into bite sized pieces so that they may be digested more easily. I'm sure you have very interesting things to say but your posts, without exception, are like having a HUUUUGE meal dumped in front of you. My reaction at least, is 'Jeez! I can't eat that lot!'
Hope that tip helps :).

I know about the credit card thing, but I should get the £235 for the cancelled monitor back - they're not a great store but they're not outright thieves ;)

not seen the one about the consumer must not be out of pocket thing. I'd have thought that might get tangled up in the facts of the situation. I did order the speakers, however I would not have if I had not ordered the monitor. The main thing that OcUK did wrong (imo) was to send out the speakers without first checking with me if an incomplete order would be alright when the item cancellation was at their end.

an update:
When I made the original order OcUK postage was £8.95+vat, which is what they charged me to send just the speakers. If I make a basket at OcUK with just the speakers in it the postage added is ... £4.75+vat. So they ripped me off on the postage too! Grrr. That's something I should get refunded srtaight away... :eyebrow:
