This will just be a general comment from me, since it's the first time this "situation" has occured:

What does the Officers and the Guild think about people with bought characters joining the guild?
The danger is that you get a person who doesn't know shit about the character he is playing, and that won't actually be an advantage for the guild (not to mention that it's illegal if you follow Blizzard's rules (I think?)).

Yes, I can see that this guy has a lvl60 hunter, but that can't actually be compared to playing a druid in any kind of way.
I also see that he has tried to play Oshun's druid, but how much can you learn about a class if you just try to play with a lvl 60?

In my oppinion you need to have leveled the character yourself from the 1st level to fully be able to understand the whole aspect of you class.

But again; this is not something I'm directing straight at "new-Ug", I just think it's important that we have a small debate around it since it's the first time (?) it's happened - at least as we know of :)

Split off from application section as it was more conceptual debate than a comment on the character of the applicant.

Well, i'd really like him to msg a GM telling him that his nick is offensive in a language, that way he can change some letters atleast. It will show if he doesnt know shit about his class, so lets just let time decide :)

The reason why I asked these questions, was not to say/guess anything about "new-Ug"'s skills as a druid - I think it's a much more important that we on a general basis have a discussion around the topic of letting people with bought characters into the guild.  And the two main reasons why I think this needs to be debated are as following:

1 - they have not 60 levels of experience playing that class, which in most cases will be fare from beneficial for the rest of the raid group and guild.
2 - according to Blizzarad's EULA (or one of those other licence agreements), it it illegal to transfer your account that way to another person.

And the first point is also ofcourse by fare the most important.

I'm not all shure what to think about this matter myself yet, but I ask the question because I think it's really important that they are asked :)

Can I just clarify that the account that seems to be in question (Ug's) was not bought. No money changed hands for it, or will - it was simply given by Ug to my boyfriend. as far as I'm aware this does not constitute a breach of the EULA.

They have been friends for years, and bought and started playing the game together. As I started playing more my fella has been playing less..... Blizzard have stated that in the future they plan to allow the splitting of accounts. This would have enabled Bawbag (his toon)  to have been transferred to a seperate, new account for a fee - as this as as not been implemented yet, Ug's offer of his account to my bf seemed like the next best option.

I'm not taking issues with the problems of someone getting to grips with a new  toon and class (as they are most certainly true), I simply want to clarify that this is not the same as an ebayed toon. Ug has left the game before, for several months, but came back..... As he is currently looking for work, he wants a clean break from the tempations of simply ringing Blizz up to reopen his account.

I hope this clears thing up. The 'new' Ug doesn't have access to these forums yet, and isn't wanting to cause any problems or controversy. He is now an initiate in the guild, soo as far as he's concerned he needs to do the same things and play the same way as anyone else would or did when they first joined SoG.

Just for the heck of it.

No, even tho no money has been tranfered it is still not legal. Even allowing a friend of yours create an char on your account is illegal. He has to buy the game for him self... thats how it is. (not that is matters or anything ;p)

But for the situation i would say. Let the person join the guild as a new, and have a trial, like the guild rules state. In the trial it will be possible for members to give feedback on how the person playes, and for the officers to deside whether or not he will join. In the same time, it will be possible for the person to learn the full aspects of his char, and for other players in the guild to help/guide him some of the way.

I wouldent tho, allow an entirely new player (not to wow, but to the class level 60) on to any major raids, such as MC or BWL, and its is not yet known if he can be "trustet" to do what is expected for that class.

That is what i would do anyway.

he bough the game, he had a char before... so there is nothing illigal about giving a charcter away. the only thing that isnt allowed is making money of it.

you realy think blizzard give a shit about how is paying for a acound?

Just to add my two-pence worth....

I agree with Bob's first points about knowing your class etc. but not sure if aleveling a char automatically means u know how to play it. (I have a level60 pala that doesnt know where the "Heal" button is...)   Jk

Anyway..  twopence worth   like i said.....

First off:  I've known Baw (and Osh) for a good while now and I'm sure he'll fit in nicely here.(whichever toon he is playing)

Second:  He's not totally new to the whole druid set-up because he has played Oshun quite a bit too. (oops soory osh  i wasnt supposed to say   :D  )

Thirdly: Ug is a good, well kitted out char with some valuable alch skills. so would it be better to keep this char and welcome a "new" member or to bring someone in completely new that may not play the druid well?
After all   posting an allakhazam profile doesnt prove your ability to play your class.

/welcome bawbag and hope everything works out well for you. (by the way   give Ug a nudge... I wanna see a reply from him here soon.
