GTL or LfS?

We are locked on the horns of a dilemna.

GTL was unusable for three days recently because the 'lobby' was unreachable. There was next-to-no feedback from the GTL developers as to what the problem was or how long it would be down for. <_<

So Doorman fired up the LfS server in its DEMO mode so that our members without the full game could run off and get the free demo and race with t'others.

Damn fine fun it was too. :D

Some of us LfS owners who hadn't played it for a while were impressed by the latest developments and it started us thinking ... should we move back to LfS?

From opinions expressed on Ventrilo it was generally agreed that one is not better than the other. They are simply different.

GTL has the wonderful cars/tracks with familiar names. LfS is very user-friendly and has an active development team. The racing on both is highly enjoyable.

So. What do you think we should concentrate on? GTL or LfS?

Opinions please people.

LFS doesn't install Starforce drivers to screw with your PC :D

It gets my vote and its cheaper for people who want to buy iy which should make it easier to attract new people.

After some deep soul searching I am 50 /50

Reason â€" I love going around real tracks in real cars that I would never get the chance to try which gives GTL my vote

As for LFS ..Its as stable as a rock and the racing is a bit more forgiving keeping the pack tighter for better nail biting races

If we moved back to LFS as the game of choice it would not concern me at all ..Both are great driving games in there own right

The lack of support and buggy features of GTL do give me concerns though  :ranting:

Also the price LFS £24  GTL £13

I may be wrong here but LFS seems to have a lot more players / servers and you get to use your own skins which is great fun

In general I'm with 'im up there ^ Physics in LFS have improved out of sight and is, in my view, more 'simulator'. Online skins  Developers that actually give a damn solid online play, it goes on. I do love the real tracks/cars but (Doggers'll love this) the various bugs and awkwardness of GTL lets it down. On balance, I'm an LFS man.

Oh, and I do skins to order :D

LFS LFS LFS!!!11

Sorry, it just so happens I don't have GTL.

I found I could get more feedback from LFS then the GTL demo. You can feel the car easier. LFS just agreed with me for some reason, it is the only racing game I've ever baught. Wasn't particularly excited about the GTL demo.

I have the demo installed which server do you play on?

Are you restricted to the in car view in LFS?

I have not played LFS much, well, only last night so it's difficult for me to be objective.  I find that LFS gives me very little feedback about what is going on with the car and it's a shame that there are no real tracks, I love driving cars and tracks that I know.  Could we not do both as I don't yet think that LFS is my bag entirely but GTL is as I love the cars in it.

Wordan

I think it's hard to say LFS is more user friendly. You do have to know what buttons do what, espically in the car setup screen, which might make it difficult for those of us who are less technical. One thing to point out to a first time LFS user would be to try the 'race_1' setup instead of 'Hard Track.' I don't know if the Hard Track setup is supposed to emulate a standard road going setup for most cars? Also, before you fiddle with the setup  options at the bottom, click the 'new' button first, otherwise it will overwrite race_1, or whatever else is selected at the time. (unless ofcourse you want to permenantly change that setup) When you click the new button, it makes a copy of what is currently selected. Maybe this is obvious stuff, but it took me and my neighbour a little bit to catch on. I ended up restoring the included setups from the LFS download.

edit:mind you, I am a naturally rubbish racer, so I could be talking out of my TANGO

While this debate is ongoing it makes sense to stick with the LfS demo so as many racers as possible can try it first hand and decide which way they'd prefer to see Dead Men Racing go.

The LfS server is called Dead Men Racing and, incase you need it, it's on 87.240.138.20

Our Ventrilo server is on: 87.240.138.23  Port 3784  Password: deadtalk

Well... even though logic is against me, I want to stick with GTL. LFS just doesn't do it for me. I mean, everything with the game is right but for some reason it just isn't as fun. Maybe it is the car sounds, the look-alike cars or something. Dunno. GTL for me.

Dr_Danger

After giving LFS a shot last night I must say that it just doesn't do it for me. Mainly its about cars and tracks as it was mentioned earlier. So GTL for me. I think it would be good if there was LFS and GTL going on in different days so people can enjoy both.

I fired up good old GPL this morning before I went to work, and wooh what a blast that is, I don't think it will ever get old. 65 mod is great too. Maybe somebody would like to give it a shot?  8)

JamesB

Yes, I have to say that I think it's going to be GTL for me too.  I had fun last night but it's not the same and really we have not had that many issues with GTL.  Can we not do both?  Charging around Brands in a Mini Cooper or Cortina is just superb, driving a fictitious circuit an an XRG Coupe or whatever is not quite the same for me.  I guess the reason I like GTL is that it's "real".  I have an affinity with these old cars and I guess that's what I enjoy.

Doorman

How's about alternate nights? Wouldn't have a problem with that :)

Damn Simbin! If it hadn't have been for them feckin' up we wouldn't have this dilemma

I have to say at this point, that those of you who weren't immediately smitten with LFS, give it more of a chance. Also S2 has LOADS more to offer in the way of tracks and cars.
On the subject of 'real' v. 'imaginary' tracks, I've never driven on any of them so they could all be imaginary as far as I'm concerned. (never heard of Misano until I downloaded it!)

JamesB

Yes, I'd be happy to alternate and I accept that I need to give LFS a bit more time, but GTL captivated me instantly and LFS just does not seem to flick my switch so that does not bode well for it.  I understand that many have never driven the tracks in GTL anyway and as you say many of those that have been made subsequently for GTL I had never heard of either, but I have driven Brands, Donnington and Snetterton and I'm familiar with the layout of many others so driving real tracks feeds my enthusiasm for a sport I can no longer afford to participate in.  As a newcomer I will obviously bow to whatever you decide, but I really would like to continue with GTL and you lot, because I have really enjoyed my online racing since I have been racing with you.
