mettamod site is down mate.  here is a the readup on private players ref my link above.

wadda u think guys?

This server plugin will allow you to decide which players can play on your server, by entering their WONIDs or IPs into a MySQL database or a text file.

This can be very useful if you're a website that has one or several servers and only want registered people to be able to connect.

You can do this with AdminMod's slot reservation feature, but P2 can adapt to your database (without any access level specified) : just enter the name of the table containing your players (registered users), the name of the field containing their WONIDs or their IPs, and... that's all !

If you don't have a MySQL database, you can use a simple text file (see addons/p2/players.cfg).

If your MySQL server is not close enough to your game server (then causing lags every time a player tries to connect), you can ask for your players table to be loaded into memory at map start.

You can also provide a string to append to MySQL query (to restrict access to a few registered users only, for example a clan check if the server is only for a clan).

at the end of the day we want to know who peeps are.  the reg page should take their wonid and email address and usual game tag/name.

then they should get the server password by reply email to the email address they entered.

the above would solve many of our misscomms issues enabling us to rotate passwords every month at least.

Sounds very simple and powerful.

it has some very handy configs too.  IE we could set a date for this system to go live on the servers.... obviously a date that give them about 4 weeks to get signed up on gandy's php pages T.B.A

then at the end of that we could first make the server prefer registered players, IE kick unknown players when registered players try to join.... give em a gentle reminder to register :-)

then after another couple of weeks set it to only let known players on.

smite

Take into consideration Match nights is it easily turned on and off.

Stryker

yes it is easily turned off, although I'd be more in favour of getting em to sign up.... will certainly put off the cheats

I got alarm bells ringing ...

When I did some investigations into the MH and Baldric configs I found that one of the reasons we were having problems was that both servers are running out of a single directory and hence were forced to share certain config files: namely server.cfg and mapcycle.txt

In effect this means that we don't have the option of configuring Baldric without affecting MH.

Ideally we need to resolve this situation before we add any mods. Once this is done it will be possible to have the servers set as we've discussed in the past. I was hoping that Stryker would fill in my 'Linux knowledge gaps' this weekend to enable me to get the ball rolling on this.

Hope that makes sense. For all I know Stryker has already setup HLDS_1 and HLDS_2 so that we do now have two distinct servers which would mean that I'm worrying for nothing.

I should also add ...

We're not running VAC on either server. When I tried turning it on things did not go well. I'm unsure if this is another symptom of the way the two servers are configured.

ok, how does this sound? For matches, use red. I'm happy to donate some of our bandwidth just for matches as long as the link is good (Stryker!!)

FYI, red is our new web server that we have installed with crosswired. At the mo it is just running the web sites for the company that I work at (//www.atb-sales.co.uk if anyone is interested)

Is this feasable? That way red could be set JUST for matches and nothing else, then both MH servers can have whatever on them.

I'll get ICQ installed when I get home Stryker, may be a late one here tonight, so I'll mail you when I do.

Gandy, I'd agree to deduct the games bandwidth from your server's usage (obviously) :-)

At two matchs per week you'd be looking at/around 5-7GB per month!

Blackie uses around 25GB per month in total at this time.

There has to be an easy way run multiple seperate servers.  Like I said there is only one sticking point..... the game needs 1 environment var set that points to the game's directory.  Now for two seperate games installed I reckon you should get away with useing diff user accounts to run&own the games as they should be able to have seperate environment vars.
