speed cameras are dangerous.

personally im not aposed to the use of speed cameras, but only places like schools, where they are of actual use rather than just money making.

That debate has been going on a bit here in holland too, but i agree w/ sheepy, they are only used for money making now, and not for promotion of road safety, as they could have been by placing them near schools/hospitals and other more sensitive locations then the roadside on some backwater road.

Well, atleast in the UK they put big signs up with: SPEED CAMERAS AHEAD.
And offcourse the signs with how many people have died on that road that year.

yeah, thats the big problem in the NL, they dont let you notice in advance that there are speedcamares. this will "if you are speeding" insure that you hit the breaks hard if you see them late. casing the one behind you 2 hid you hard from behind. And me no like to be hit from behind.

Plus I've seen some nice English drivingstyles allready. Even when overtaking a vehicle they are nice! In the NL you would have had an English greating allready (they should call it a Dutch traffic greating aswell).

dude, maltese driving is just like any uk town or city on a friday night, but all the time. apart from one thing, in my dads words

"in malta there is no such thing as driving on the left or the right of the road, people just drive in the shade"

Nope, they put signs EVERYWHERE, even where there are not cameras, so you end up ignoring them and then you still get the emergency brake reaction when the camera is there.  The sign is not a safety device or a common-sense thing, it's to comply with English Law in case there might be a camera there.  Ergo it supports revenue generation and is nothing to do with increasing road safety.

Personally i do not speed. I am the slow guy who makes traffic jams through towns travelling at 30mph and along motorways at 70. In my opinion from the amount of traffic that builds up behind me i would say drivers in general do not acknowledge the 30mph limit or want to speed. The reason for my sticking to 30mph is that i do not want to injure any children and would prefer to prevent any such event occuring by keeping my speed down. I also do not drink and drive, which includes sober nights out. On a trip to uni many people pass me along the motorway but i prefer to stay safe and stick to the limits. Remember for those who have just started driving 3 points is half way to loosing your license as at 6 you can have it taken away if you acculmulate these within your first 2 years of driving. After the first 2 years this then rises to 12. I have though almost been caught out by some safety camera vehicles by accidently going 2 or 3 mph over the limit but so far i have a clean slate.

......adults are fair game then? :norty:

The problem is at 30 you'll kill a child anyway, so you're logic is fundamentally flawed.  20mph is much safer, as is walking.  But then I'd rather see a 100mph speed limit on the motorways.  Sensible speed limits are adhered to, I just wish the government put sensible speed limits on appropriate stretches of road instead of the crap that we have now.

there is a way to fool speed cameras (works over here neways..)

if 2 cars travel at lest say 100mph but they stay head to head, then the cam is fooled, why?

whos the one travelling @100mph? it could be that one of the guy is going @30mph and the other one @100mph and is overtaking the slowpoke

so unless its a van vs some racecar.. youlle pretty much cheat it

Which is why over here the camera takes two photos to show travel against a set of lines on the raod so that speed can be verified visiually as well as by radar.

There is no can about it, you do lose your licence straight away unless you can mount a successful legal defence which as I found out, is very very hard to do.

Oh and then look who's made a profit out of me re-doing my theory and practical test. Between 700 and 1000 drivers a month lose their licence due to this ruling.
