thanks to mreggs for his help with the file list.  no thanks to you other swine  :evil:

I was not missing any files... then in the end I reinstalled THE LOT!

Installed Half-Life from CD
Patched Half-Life to 1110
Installed CS 1.5

unstall delete the files left..
install in to a diffrent dir????

the same ting happend 2 me , i coldnt c bullit holes or sprays 4 ages, it sorted itsself out with the instalation of 1.5 tho.

Yes oldie, thats what I did.  I'm starting to wonder if its some weird graphics issue... also whats that file the sprays are stored in?  the one that grows n grows as they are downloaded.

Found this.

gl_polyoffset X
X sets polygon offset factor. Other values may fix flickering with decals or missing decals. This will not solve flickering cause by gl_ztrick "1".


Values recommended by Valve
Geforce with d3d = -0.001
Matrox, Geforce, or Riva cards = 0.1
3dfx = 4
3dlabs = 25

Well Stryker did you try the polygonoffset thingy and did it work for you :?:
I've been messing about a bit trying to get the decals working and probably doing exactly the same things as you but no luck  :o|:  Do you happen to have a GeForce2 too?

:D I've got decals now!!!
Fixed it by changing from D3D to OpenGL, and it's improved my FPS quite a lot too   :P  double bonus!  :smokin:

problem is I cant get open gl to work .... WWWWHHHAAARRR

I used to get reasonable FPS, well compared to what I was used to, with D3D, between 20 and 50, but dropping to about 4 when smokies were let off. It's GeForce 2 MX card so maybe that is why it worked in D3D mode  :conf:
I didn't select D3D for HL it just happened (honest officer!) :o
I got my latest drivers from ASUS, seeing as its an ASUS card, //www.asus.com.tw/index.asp.
I assume you've tried the config options, press esc, in game, select configuration and then video? Then select OpenGL from the list in the top right hand bit of the screen?
