Is there a website anywhere that lists or compares Windows compatible mobile telephones?  All I want is for a phoe to synch perfectly with Outlook and to make the calls.  I don't need to have a full blown PDA.  Currently I am with Orange, but I can change if needed.  They have only one phone I can see on their website which is listed as Windows compatible and that's the Orange SPV C600 and I just want to see if there is more than a single choice of telephoen out there!  My current phone is the Orange C550 and being replaced because finally, after 2 years, I have broken it.

Do you need full mail synchronization, or will it be enough to be able to synchronize contact lists, appointments and tasks with outlook?

If it is the latter, I could recommend a program called MyPhoneExplorer. It is a small program developed to synchronize with SonyEricsson K700, K750 and K800 series (but it should work with most SE models, except the Symbian based ones). Once it is installed, it can be set to also synchronize with whatever other contact/calendar program you might have on your computer, including Outlook, all in one go.

I myself use it with my SE K750i and Rainlendar, and I am very happy with it :D

I don't know if it supports synchronizing of mail as well - doubt it a bit, but I'm not 100% sure. When I need to send/receive mail on my phone, I use the genius little java application Gmail have to access their mail system :)

MyPhoneExplorer is just fantastic. When i get home I plug the phone in and use my pc for receiving and sending messages. I use the calendar all the time as well, which synchronises with my phone. It can export vcard data regarding the calendar, which should be compatible with Outlook? And the prog is free.

I think with a bluetooth headset you can also do some calling. But check out the site. The program is very good.

I use the imate jamin, works really well as a pda/phone and syncs with outlook without any problems. I've even got tomtom on it which works great!

However, I don't use it as a phone much, more a pda. But when I do need to use it as a phone it's ok. It all depends on how much you like microwaving your brain though as I know someone who used it as a phone more than a pda and they were frustrated with it as it's not as good as a dedicated phone.

I'm with Bob and Delan, W850i + MyPhoneExplorer + Outlook = Happy Days :D

Del - You can use MyPhoneExplorer to make/receive calls using the hands free function. This is activated by clicking the speaker icon.

Yes you mean the function in the phone, that enables the speaker in the phone itself?

AFAIK it should be possible to use a BT headset, even when connected to the PC and not the phone, as long as it is BT... Haven't solved that yet.

How do you sync with Outlook? Just the direct compatibility in the SE phone?

If you go to File>Settings>Synchronizing, you can choose if your contacts and your calendar should synch only with MyPhoneExplorer, or also any other contact/calendar program you might have on your computer :)

can it cope with more than one phone's worth of contacts (two people, two phones, one pc) and suchlike on the same pc? The official SE sync program seems to only do one set of contacts as far as I could tell.

You can in MPE at least set up synch with more than one phone - how this will work out if you want to synch with Outlook as well I guess will depend a bit on how your system is set up. If the two people have different user accounts on the computer it shouldn't cause any trouble, as Outlook data will be stored separate for each user, but if they are sharing the same user account, I don't know how that will be handled :g:

Give it a try, and don't blame me if things mess :narnar:
Take a backup at least first...

where does the standard SE software back up the contacts list to? At least the motorola software let you save it as a text file wherever you wanted with whatever name you wanted. The SE stuff just kind of overwrites something somewhere and says success. Not very useful for backing up two+ phones of different contacts!

I don't use Outlook so possibly there's a contacts book in it somewhere with this data and I could create more profiles...but where are these files? I back up my "my documents" folder and subfolders as this is where I keep all my files that I want to, er, backup

I don't know about the standard SE software, as I've never used that. My thought was that you should just use MPE to take a backup of everything on your phone before you experiment with anything (you can do that from Extra>Create Backup).

Another alternative (which I used myself before I found out about MPE) is to send all contacts from your phone over to your PC via BlueTooth. This can be done from within your contact list on your phone: Options>Advanced>SendAll Contacts>Via Bluetooth (might not be exactly those names, as I have a Norwegian menu), which will send all contacts bunched up  in a text file to your PC, which at a later point can be inserted back into the phone.
At least that's how it should work in theory - as I've never had to restore my phone, I have never tried the last part :narnar:

As for where programs like Outlook (and I guess also the SE software) store stuff: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ should be the place to look.
