Agreed the RIP guys are pretty cool witht their teamwork and teamplay. I prefer playing early morning with the RIP American members tho .

I did try to join one or two RIP servers, but I think my internet hates a few of the servers, I lose connection with a few after 10 seconds or so...

The Americans really are fun to play with and if you dont have to get up then it really extends playtime.

I was just wondering, how long does it take, on average, to unlock guns?
Say I was playing 1-3 hours a day.

The first couple of unlocks are fairly easy. go here http://bf2s.com/ and enter your player ID or your Nick name that you use to log on with (ie: inGame name).
 
This will pull up all of your stats and give you an indication of how far you are to the next unlock and how long it should take you. Keep an eye on which medals you need for a few of the higher unlocks. Pistol / knife can be hard to get but I've found a server that is knives / shock paddles only (ranked) so when you get closer I can give you that info.
 
Also, if you haven't done so yet, get the Special Forces pack. Each time you level up you'll get an extra unlock (ie: 2). All I find that you have to do is hit the next level in BF2 and then go back out and into SF and hit it again (usually takes one map) and the next day you'll have 2 weapon unlocks. IIRC when you install SF you get an unlock straight away. worth the cash if you ask me. Also, I like the idea of the grappling hook (too bad it's not in vanilla BF2) as you can go up almost any building which changes the normal gameplay.. the Zip wire is fun but you can only go down but it's still handy if you climb high you can scale the map quite easily.

no offence construed I still enjoy BF2 without the extra guns but it annoys me that you have to "grind" on "official" servers in order to get access to the rest of the game. Plus as I said my pc is just too old:doh:

Its a matter of perspective, I don't consider playing a game to be a hassle or grind. I've restarted my BF2 account several times for various reasons, and to be honest your at no great disadvantage with the basic guns. Its not like the unlocks are that much better in most cases. ie the AK47 a basic gun has better stopping power than most of the unlocks. The basic sniper rifle especially MEC one is superior in many ways to the 2nd unlock M50 (which is very slow to reload).

I guess the best unlock vs the original weapon is probably the AT DA0-12.

The most important thing in BF2 isn't your weapon,  its how skillful you are at shooting someone, your tactics, use of cover etc. Your choice of weapon will make a slight difference but not as much as a persons skill. example, Paddy and I have been known to go a bit daft and decide to be AT/Engineers on an infantry only server on Karkand or Mashtuur, and we still get top 5 (god knows how).

I think BF2 demands more from the player regarding team strategy, tactics and shooting skills than CSS which I feel is aimed at a younger audience who demand instant gratification and find games that last longer than 5 mins boring. But the world would be boring if we all like the same stuff

I really do need to start playing BF2 more - if it means I can shoot Ninja I'm there baby! :woot2:
