Well ive decided to put my 360 on my network so i can see all my movies on my pc on my big tv. The main issue is it doesnt want to play most videos even though i have all codecs installed on my pc. Is there a requirement on the xbox to have codecs installed onto it or something?

Hope some1 knows :crying:

I would assume so DA. You're only accessing the file from your PC not running it on there. The media is being played on your Xbox is it not?

If it was running from your PC the Xbox would only be acting to pass the signal (video / audio) through..

Just a hunch.

Ok i tried this round a friend's. Basically you need to have windows media player 10 or higher installed and the sharing content  box ticked in the windows media player options. I seem to remember it can only stream certain content that the xbox deems to be legitimate. Therefore i think it contacts the microsoft server and works out whether it is/ isn't allowed to play the content. Therefore certain codecs abnd file types will be refused but some will be permitted to play. I hope this is of some help DA. I think wmv files play but not divx files.
