Getting a job in Ireland/UK

I am currently applying for various jobs around Denmark. After a long chat with a co-worker, who is going back to Ireland now after being an expat in Denmark for 10 years, I got a bit hooked on working overseas. The thought has been with me for years, but he kick-started it again. So... I'm wondering about stuff like

- what are the best job portals?
- what is the best way to find the job, if not those portals? over here it would be mouth-to-mouth

- anything you need to know before going expat from the overseas perspective? tax and such
- Is London/Dublin the places to go for, or?
- how tolerant would ppl be to my non-native British? I guess I can go for fluent on a good day, but there's always the jargon and stuff. And Scotland /Ireland would be a challenge I reckon? :blink: I remember TD and Whitey giving me a taste of it at the Indian restaurant some LANs ago.

I am of c trying to find a job via some Danish connection to the UK, Danish co or something, but I figured looking directly can't hurt.

My line of work could be business development, management in general, organisational design, mergers and acquisition and such... gladly with a twist of entrepreneurship and IT. I am also a decent in marketing and advertising. I reckon it could be consultancy, maybe. That is what I am trying to get here, besides also aiming high for strategic jobs in various companies... Should not be that hard?

I have no time period being free as a bird at the moment. Pay-wise I don't really care, as long as it at reflects the job I end up doing somewhat.

Any comments? :boxing:

I tried, but I can't choose my location (overseas, international or the equivalent isn't there). I can of c just choose one, and see how that goes? Site looks good.

Any idea of what level of income I should be aiming at? I have been crusing jobs at monster.co.uk for some time, but have no idea. Really no idea :sad:

Sources for jobs will depend on your experience.

I've found that the UK has a significant number of recruitment companies but about 60% are really low end, hourly paid jobs. -- Google it and see what you come up with. STAY AWAY FROM THE HIGH STREET BRANDS. pm me if you like.

Personally I've never used Monster so I can't comment..

With respect to location, a lot of that will depend on lifestyle. London pays well but it's expensive to live there but the turnover in jobs is usually good. I would say go where you want to reside and depending on your skills and experience you should land a job OK. Use recruitment agents and make sure you have also have a couple of references (pref in English on same headded paper..) along with your CV.

Best way to determine salary will be by looking at what is out there and compare it to your CV.

Have you worked for any companies with a presence in the UK? If so, work your contacts through them and see if anything floats to the surface.

Best of luck.. Just don't move near Benny.. The water's really funny in his neck of the woods..

Thing is, my experience is sort of a weird case. I have some good stuff there for a 29-year old just-educated, but not sure it applies to what I want to do. Perhaps I can send you my CV and have your feedback on how to approach it, besides what you mention here?
