Given room dimensions and size of current screen I reckon I need to go for a 32" model. Been looking at http://www.avforums.com/forums/forumdispla....php?forumid=42 and there seems to be quite a strong feeling that 100Hz TVs have lots of issues just now (insufficient buffer memory leading to tearing and blocking when cameras are panned quickly) especially on the cheaper end of the market. They seem to suggest that, unless you are spending wads of cash (I'm not) then a good 50Hz TV is a better bet. They do seem to like the Panasonic 32PL1 so I may go for that one - Curry's are selling it for £597 just now. I don't want to buy off the internet - if there are probs then it is just a PITA.

So many tellys, so little time :)

Don't waste your money on a 100Htz TV unless you're spending wad of cash. The 50 Htz ones are fine.

Reference the thread about Dixons, Currys, PC World etc. I'd be wary of handing over large amounts of money to those shysters. If your making such a big investment in something, there's an arguement for going to an indepentent dealer. You will be getting better service and the comfort of knowing you're actually going to get an aftersales service, should things not go well with your new purchase. You probably won't spend much more on the TV if you do.

I only spent an extra £45 buying a Sony 32FQ75U from my trusted local dealer rather than the Currys Beast  :)

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I bought a Toshiba 42" widescreen rear projection TV about a year and half ago and am well happy with it....and that is 100Hz.
You should be able to pick one up for about £900 now.

Panasonic for me.

I got the TX-32PK1 some 18 months ago and have never regretted it.

BTW - my friendly local dealer wanted £200 more than I found it on the net.  :?

Quite often you can find the model you want at the online site of a major store anyway.  SO you can pay the web price and go kick n-degrees of sh*t out of the spotty oik at their local store if it goes wrong.  In fact, go kick the spotty oik even if you don;t buy from them, he probably deserves it anyway.  FWIW I have also managed to get John Lewis to price match the web price on a number of big ticket items, officially they do not do this, but I have got them to do it for about £2,500 worth of goods over the past 4 years.

If you have a particularl model you are interested in let me know and I'll  check the 'Which' web trader discount site (password needed) to see if they have anything competitive for you.

Appreciate the feedback peeps. Panasonic 32PL1 is top bet at the moment. TL, wouldn't mind any info you can find? Cheers m8.

I have not checked the general web for this model, but via the Which website I find the Panasonic TX32PL1C (inc cabinet) for £646.01 from Hughes Direct (in stock).

Model number differs slightly but then you didn't give a full model number.

Hope this helps.
