Iron asked me last night when I first started playing LFS.

He was surprised when I said 'years ago'.

It made me wonder - how long have the rest of you been playing?

Me: Registration on LFS Forum says May 2003, whether that's accurate to my LFS start date, who knows.. I think they took your LFS.net account and converted it into a forum account though?

What about the rest of you?

Also, what's your history? Other 'teams' etc?

I used to be part of Clean Cruisers - bad name, but nice group. I haven't even bothered to look if the website still exists, because I was part of it in 2005. One of the members who has also moved on is Jonesy_ - he's mentioned on the front page of the LFS site at the mo.. think he's part of some uber-fast group.

Then, I stopped playing at the end of 2005, with a couple of go's probably totalling 1 hour through the whole of 2006 and most of 2007 whilst playing GTL, GTR and rFactor. I'm now back into LFS after realizing that nowt else comes close.

I am a total noob.. Been with LFS for about 2.5 weeks.
Tbh I have never been much of a car game player but something about the realism and the community really appealed to me so I thought I would try the demo.

With in hours I was hooked and purchased the full S2 I think I am just about starting to get the hang off things like breaking time's and racing lines but there is definatly an element of fear in my driving as I would rather get around the corner in one piece.

I reckon with time my speed will increase and I am considering wheel investment?

The main thing is I really enjoy it as a good break from CS: S and I love the skinning too.

As I said I wasnt a car game player so if it wasn't for being a dMw member I wouldnt of come across the game.

Long Live dMw :D :D

Doorman

Also May 2003. That's when S1 came out. I played the demo for some time before that. I also get slower with the passing years!

Yesterday :narnar:. But had been playing the demo for a few days before getting the full thing.

I read about lfs in a magazine sometime in summer 2005. I didn't try it at first, because I wasn't so interested in car games anymore. It was around september 2005 when I remembered it again and I decided to try the demo.

I was impressed that it felt so much more realistic than the other games I had tryed during the years. I played the demo quite long. I bought the S2 in late april 2006. One of the reasons was that I got very bored with the BL1 config and I wanted to try other tracks.

About the LFS forum reg date...it is the date registered to the forum. Demo doesn't require forum reg and when you buy license, you do it with an account name. But I think it is registered to the forum side only when you log in there for the first time. So not all license owners have a forum reg(?). That's how remember reading it. Also Lfs used SRC forum before 2003, so those around at that time got their license transfered to lfs forum somehow I think. :g:

Who knows!

Doorman - Ah, S1 release, makes sense.

Venom - I got slower when I went from mouse to wheel, but the enjoyment went WAY up. I've had about 4 different wheels now, cant beat them for proper sim-feel. Force Feedback in LFS is yum.

Lameduck

May,2006 but didnt race regularly until June this year.
Met a pair of clean, fair and fun racers called OldBloke & Doorman.
Liked the company, enjoyed the racing and the banter. Got sticky feet and am still here. :)

dec 2005, tried it because i wanted a newer nicer looking alternative to grand prix legends that only the grand prix series had nearly achieved

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

It was one of the very early versions when I tried it the first time, back in 2002-2003? I don't remember exactly, but it had that version of blackwood, where there was a ditch at the finish straight, and no multiplayer, I think. Played some, then forgot it, then played some more with the later versions in 2004 (only hotlapping offline, with keyboard), then forgot it altogether.

Until 2006 september, when I downloaded it again (I don't remember why), and it grabbed me immediately. I haven't played any other sim seriously before that (it means keyboard only and only for a few months at max), let alone an online racing sim, so I was quite surprised why I enjoyed it so much, but oh well, you have to start somewhere. :) My only previous racing simulator experience was Colin McRae Rally, the original in 1996, and the second installment in 1998 with keyboard of course.

But LFS grabbed me so much I instantly wanted to buy a wheel and a licence, though due to money constraints, I had to buy them in steps, first the wheel in december (a DFP), the licence and a brand new computer (old one couldn't handle more than 5 cars on the grid) in march, this year. It was quite an investment for this game, I really hoped that my interest would last more than a few months, and now with more than 23000 kms behind me, I can tell ya it was worth it. :)

When I started playing, CTRA (called STCC back then) had been up and running for a few months already, so I never really bothered with the popular boring combos servers, went for CTRA straight. A few months later, while I reached Gold licence, I started to realise that even on CTRA the racing was not clean enough for me.

It was in August when I found the dMr server, and I liked the variety it offered/still offers, and of course above all, the friendly and clean drivers. Since then, I don't feel comfortable on CTRA servers, let alone any other popular public servers.

That's my story.

Bought LFS in 2005 I think and played it a very little bit. I had some issues I did not like so did GTL and Racer instead. When GTL died out here in dMw I played CS instead. Went back to LFS, basically a rookie in it, a month ago or so. Can really feel the improvement on the Q-version of what it was I had back then, compared to recent.
