As you know, we have all been suffering a little bit of lag spike recently and some of it has been traced back to Homer, our beloved and very FREE MeatHook server.  Basically, it just ain't what it used to be and badly needs an upgrade - and this is the bit where YOU can help.  We need your contributions towards to cost of the upgrade and would like to have the upgrade installed in double-quick time - especially as we are hosting the ED Cup final very soon.

622 is the magic number - that's £622- the total cost of the upgrade.

What will it get you?  Well it should give us a damn fine server to see us right over the next couple of years.  Put in practical terms, it means a substantial upgrade to the following:

Pentium 4 2.0Ghz CPU
1.0Gb PC2700 Fast RAM
Epox EP-4G4M+ Motherboard
40GB UDMA 100 Hard Drive

BAD NEWS: There are about 15 members of -=[dMw]=- and that means that we are looking for an average of £42 from each member.

GOOD NEWS: We have already secured some significant donations from 2 -=[dMw]=- members.  This means that the remaining 13 members have to find a total of just £422 (not £622) - that's an average of just £32.50 per member.

If you would like to donate then please post your donation here on this thread.  Alternatively, if you prefer to have either your name and/or your donation amount to remain anonymous, then send a private message to me (just click on my name to do so) and I'll add the the details of the donation to the thread in accordance with your wishes.  I will contact anyone who makes a pledge and provide details of how to make your donation.

Keep MeatHook going, keep it competitive, and keep it fun.  Please pledge NOW!!

Stryker

I do beleive some non -=[dMw]=- types offered their support.  At least they did that night we were playing on a lagging MH and were talking about an upgrade.  (you may not of been on our team :-)

At this point I'd like to state the obvious:

I feel my and Doggers donation is that of the rackspace, bandwidth and good keeping of MH.  If you disagree please mail me to arrange to pay the upkeep :-)

Oh BTW, bloody good job teaLeaf, you've really got things moving.

this is just a sugestion that me and tutonic discussed, why not use an AMD system therefore saving a bit, then buy a water cooling kit and then safley over clock the booger to about 3GHZ, job done bish bash bosh,
soz about donating its going to be very difficult at the moment as im a poor struggling student. but if u need it i have a spare case and powersupply.

Watercooling??!! Fek me, doggers is gonna have kittens!!

I think the spec we've come up with is more than adequate for the task, and will also allow for future upgrades.

Yep, Stryker, I think you and DM are doing a fine job and, personally, don't think you need to contribute anything other than what you're doing! :D

Cake: Four large eggs. One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Three/four cups butter or margarine. One and two third cups granulated sugar. Two cups all purpose flour. Fish shaped ethyl benzene. Twelve medium geosynthetic membranes. Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire.

TeaLeaf

I think the words 'water cooling system' when combined with 'rack mounted above lots of other expensive systems' would make DM & Stryker a little nervous.  Just a guess of course, but I think it would

the water cooling system is a totally self contained unit so there is no scope for leekage, they are amazing, some one who i meet at i10 had a 1ghz processor running at 1.5ghz with a temp. of 24 degrees C, which if u dont no is far cooler than cpu's normally run at. and you also have to bear in mind that the room temp. was around 22degrees c

Yep and I'm waiting for DM to amend my permissions so that I can post a similar message in the public section fo the forums.  Private Message sent to him earlier this afternoon.

You'll have no arguments from me here.  Homer is a tremendous asset to the Clan and it would be a crying shame to see it disappear in a galactic-proportioned perpetual lag spike
