Browne

Culminating in an incident on Baldric this week I have to get this off my chest.

When I was kindly invited by Doorman to join dMw in 2004, I joined a Community steeped in the tradition of good fun, good gaming and good manners. I joined a Community with ETHICS.

I would actually be looking forward to a game of CS on the server, and looked forward to a chat with the lads. Meathook was the place to be on Friday nights!

I quickly figured out that nobody, except a very few awkward souls, actually gave a toss as to whether I was any good at the game...I wasn't, but no one seemed to mind. I was proud to wear the -=[dMw]=- Tag, still am. It still beggers belief, if wearing the tag on other servers, how well you are treated. We have a reputation of being fair, respectful and above all, responsible.

When I graduated to Charlie status, I was asked to play a few matches, don't ask why, its consigned to the History books, because, what the hell, I was useless.....No one gave a monkey's...that was the secret of dMw...

Over the past year there has been a change, verbals thrown about on the servers, fraghunters who repeatedly bend the TCS rules, lack of respect for fellow dMw'ers and others, I could go on, but you will all know what and whom I am talking about. The Admins have a tough job keeping the peace and they do it well, but they can't be in all places at all times.

There are plenty of Servers that will tolerate this sort of behaviour without comment.

EDIT: I was too tired and frustrated last night to continue this, but, if you read the comments by Oldie & Whitey below, then all will have been said. It is up to us ALL to keep our Community safe & peaceful.

Its time to shape up or ship out.

Hear what you're saying, Mr B. and the admins are aware of the issue.

Whitey and his admin team have put in a lot of good work of late making sure that we have a group of people who can make sure we maintain the expected high standard that dMw demands from its members.

All members are reminded that this community isn't about skill and ability. You must adhere to our strict ethos of mature attitude, fairplay and teamwork - whoever you are.

Can everyone please re-read the Member Standards.

If you do not conduct yourself in the manner expected, then the admins will take action.

I sometimes play badly and sometimes play well, but love how I can come on the server and even with a 0-10 score not feel bad because it's against a group of people you know don't care. But as Browne says when people go off fraghunting after being warned many times etc it brings the level of play down a bit with the lack of respect for other players.
I'm happy to walk around the map on my own, but if a team mate calls an order I give it a go.
I'm sure with more admins on having graduated the school things would calm down a little. (But then again I'm just as keen for it not to go the other way with admins punishing left, right and centre) the server is often busy so there's no wonder there are dozens of new comers learning the ropes, but if they're not taking to the style they can be ruining upto 19 players enjoyment of the game.

[I missed the incodent on Baldric and quite honestly don't want to get involved, I'm commenting on Boomer, and the occasional Meathook night.]

I like to think that I'm fitting in ok with you guys and can fully understand your frustrations - I've been where you are (admin etc) and it can be a tiring and frustrating time which if you are not careful can lead to lack of enjoyment and from there stopping playing (which is sad)

My personal viewpoint on the issues raised is that if there are no admins around or an admin is having a hard time dealing with a number of issues, then the other regulars (primarily dMw players) should put their two penny worth in to try and educate the troublesome players.  Some understand after a few ('obey the signs' etc) but others don't and there is not a lot you can do about those - they will soon get fed up of being on there own in enemy territory and getting killed sharpish.

Anyway, if there is anything I can do and I'm sure many other regulars would be very happy to help out.

Catch you later peeps - Hey Browne I really appreciate what you and the others are doing here - it's pretty special - please don't give up on it eh?

Cheers! :D

Basically it can be all summed up with one word - Teamwork. Don't think of playing the game to get as many kills as possible, instead listen on comms/look out for text and try to help fellow teammates as much as possible. In my opinion there's no need for verbal abuse and it's serious if that's slating a person's skill, the servers are there to provide fun for ALL no matter what skill, the idea is teamwork and having fun.

Nicely put

In my experience so far I feel I have adhered to the rules well, I sometimes go solo but whilst doing this I keep my team updated on what and why I am on the move... Usually as a bullet magnet or decoy.

Although I have never witnessed any problems on the server with attitude and slanging matches.

Maybe this was an isolated incident?

Point is whe all accepted the rules when joining the Community.

Let's keep it that way..:)

I can only agree with you Browne..

New players i dont expect to follow the rules spot on first time, but we will show them the way, with a mature and fair attitude.
But when regulars, starts breaking the rules about mature attitude in different  ways, like bypassing the swear filter, swearing badly on voice coms, and fraghunts is irritates me greatly..
I myself expect a great deal of maturity, from the people who have the honor of wearing the -=[dMw]=- tag.

Gone_Away

This brings up a good discussion that Ghost and I were having the other night...

Bravo and Charlie used to be somewhat exclusive. The floodgates have been open for some time now and the result is that standards are slipping. It used to be less about ability but primarily about team-play, communication skills in game, TCS. You had to be proficient at these before you were granted the status.

Perhaps I'm a bit long in the tooth here but Ghost reminded me of the time he was rejected and told to improve his in-game communication. That was important to the community then and much less so now.

As the infrastructure has widened and become flatter, the second and third line of management have in my opinion, opened the flood gates to membership. If this was a business and we were actually charging for the membership (which I argue that we could / should be) that would be great from a cash perspective but it's not.

There's a growing feeling that the lunatics have taken over the asylum. I see abuse of admin powers almost too frequently (even by some of the senior admins) and while I was glad to see Admin School implemented when it was, I think that there's room for improvement.

Before you guys jump all over this I understand that the time spent on running this place is volluntary. I also understand that we're all here to have fun. I feel just as strongly as Browne does about this place and do not intend to watch standards slip.
