Quote from: OldBloke;243333In-game voice comms are OK. Some people are still too quiet because:
  • They haven't adjusted them properly using the slider.
  • They haven't enabled mic boost.
  • They use USB headsets that have no mic boost facility.
I've said this before but it needs to be said again ...

When you join a server ask if your team can hear you properly. Not 'barely' or 'just about' or 'mostly' - PROPERLY.

If you're struggling to hear someone properly - TELL THEM.

Let me remind everyone that one of the essential elements to good teamwork (and for promotion to Charlie Company, remember) is making good use of voice comms. It is unacceptable for existing members, particularly Charlie Company members, to be barely audible in any of the games we support. If this means you've got to put your hand in your pocket and buy an appropriate headset then you'd better do it and do it soon because I will be asking the admin team to clamp down on members who demonstrate an inability to be heard properly in-game.

Whoa, I wasn't advocating that we use TS or Vent - just stating an observation.

I happen to agree with you (though a bit less vehemently) that we should be able to use the in-game comms and from what I've seen we do tell people if their comms are quiet.

I find it is sometimes very difficult to call "contact" or "enemy spotted" before you're in the process of respawning, but then I'm slow...

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

Sorry Target. Not aimed at you (no pun intended) :D

I get moaned at about the lack of teamwork being demonstrated within CoD4. It's been suggested that it can be put down to poor or even non-existant voice comms. It's my role to ensure that our ethos/reputation is protected and I make no apologies if sometimes I pull no punches in exercising that role. The in-game comms are fit for purpose but, for some, they need a bit more effort to get right.

When we make the CoD4 server public I want our guests to be treated to a demonstration of how we at dMw work tactically as a team. They can't fail to notice that fact if the comms are good, clear and appropriate.

Fair point and agree completely :)

Also agree Oldbloke.  The problem with in game comms is the way it just seems (like bf2) to be erratic.  Last Wednesday when I was on everyone was saying my voice comms were very quiet.  I checked and rechecked everything could not find anything wrong.  So i resorted to just speaking very loudly.  Mrs Magnus thought I had gone mad but never mind that.  On Monday no problems nice and clear.  Also noticed that during the night the com volume of other people was up and down.  It just seems to be be the way the game deals with voice comms.  One question on another topic I keep meaning to ask is can the other team hear your voice comms?

I think I'm right in saying that if you have eavesdrop perk you can hear the oppo's voice comm if you're close enough to the player speaking.

Which makes me ponder this ... if he too has eavesdrop you could have a conversation not knowing you're on opposite teams :D

We could try turning the comms quality up. it is set at 3 just now but it can go as high as 5. I'll try changing it and see what happens.

Further investigation reveals that comms quality can go up to 9. I have set it to 5 just now.
