Quote from: Thulsa Doom;240169Maybe a separate thread is needed for this, but at what point did it become unacceptable to shoot dead bodies?
I remember joining yonks ago and dead bodies were shot.
Maybe I took no notice, but I don't remember anyone getting ticked off.

I'm trying to understand how it is disrespectful!  You shoot someone in-game in the hoping of killing that character.

It will get to the point where something is talked about too often that shouldn't really be an issue, but then becomes an issue.
Personally I think this is one of them.  Most admins will likely disagree.
It's always been a no no. Maybe you took no notice. Likewise, even worse in my opinion, is spraying on the guy you just killed. That's just like p*ssing on him. Absolutely no respect. That should be, maybe it is, a kicking offense.

Exactly why I'm staying out.

However, for the record, even I know it's unacceptable to shoot the dead bodies here. In addition, if taken to a realistic level, you would never waste your ammo in a combat situation. Dead guys aren't worth the bullets.

Not sure if I should put my head into this...

When I played Cod2, some people had this unrespectful habbit. Once they managed to kill someone they 'danced' in front of him and sprayed bullets into the body even he had been dead long. I think this also due to the fact that the camera stayed in the place where the dead person would see the other guy dancing and and spraying bullets into his screen.

About shooting corpses which have been dead for ages (and the player camera is not anymore in the body). This hasn't bothered me ever in games after all they are only zeroes and ones in computer memory. You do not normally hurt any real person's feelings. But of course it is stupid to spend your ammo in so useless activity and also let everybody to know where you are. So if I was a squad/team leader I wouldn't let any of my team members do that. In real life there would be also the respect dead people idea.

But even it doesn't bother me normally, you can overdo it too. If someone is spending much of his 'free' time in the game spraying dead I think he should be mentioned that his behaviour is not exemplary (especially if he is dMw member).

Side note. It could be done in IRL though. If in a war you saw that it looked like there was too many bodies in the no mans land, you might test if the extra looking body was a body and not e.g a member of a patrol trying to capture a prison.

EDIT: To be honest I was bit surprised this was a rule, not that I would do it. But didnt remember seeing it written anywhere. If it is a de facto rule, maybe it should be written into the member rules (the member standards or what ever it is...not just some random forum thread)

I think this topic was dead a while ago but people continue to spray it with mind bullets ;)

This is true.

For future reference,
i suggest that if the administrators are unhappy about a member conducting themselves. Rather than openly embarrass this member,  get on steam friends and let then know. I for one despise being spoken down to in front of people. I rage and i WILL answer back.
However, approaching me or any other member "without" openly discussing it for crimes i/we commit then im sure we will all respect and know not to fuss about it.
If we don't discuss these things on forums, then nothing will change, not all of us can write in the appropriate manner. But we aim to get our points across.

Some of us have been apart of dMw from the birth and early days, that its self deserves respect.:dummy::dummy:

Respect is earned, you being ex-military should know that better than anyone!

As for not publicly embarrassing people that do not follow the rules, when speaking out in public is the only route left because others have been tried and ignored then we may just have to use it.

If someone with the dMw tag, breaks the rules on our public server, the admins are inclined to let him and everybody that saw him breaking the rules know, that breaking the rules will not be tolerated. Talking back in a disrespectfull manner will lead to that the admins will not have any other options than to take actions. Bending the rules isn't allowed on our public servers even tho (especially not) wearing the dMw tag! The dMw tag is a mark that you understand and play by the dMw ethos.

This is my 2 cents, and is not discussed with any of the other admins, and is as is stands, my personal reply.

The admins have a set of standards that we follow to try and ensure consistency and fairness. I have highlighted the section regarding warnings:

Quote from: OldBloke;336265.1 Warnings on Private Servers
Warnings must be given before ANY other form of punishment for ANY Member who is violating the TCS rules or guidelines. Warnings should not be given without FULL understanding of the events that occurred. You must personally have VISUAL confirmation that a rule has been violated or proper conduct has not been followed before a punishment is issued. If possible, have another Admin confirm the event before issuing a warning. Warnings must be given onscreen for all Members to see.

 5.2 Warnings on Public Servers
Due to the MOTD and Server messages displayed during play, a separate warning is not always necessary on the public servers. If possible a direct warning should still be given for minor infractions before any other punishment is use.

These rules have been in existence since 2003 with modifications made to deal with the public server during September 2007.  These standards have served us well and I see no reason to change them.

The rules were created by the community and have been in existence for ages. being a long standing member you would know that!

I think shooting bodies should be listed as no no in the etiquette or server rules.

Free, the rules will only seem strict if someone doesn't obey them.  I seem to remember disobeying the 'no entry' signs when I first visited the server (as I said earlier) and at the time I thought it a little lame.  After chatting with people and seeing how dMw play and how they treat each other I realised that actually the rules are NOT strict at all!  They are based around game play and respect for others.  Think about it and you should see what I mean.  :g:

The admins work really hard for our game enjoyment and they rarely make mistakes. :g:

The admins only get tough on people who continuously disobey the rules and requests made.

To be honest if you have the 'feel' for the community and a 'feel' for the way we should play the games (respect, integrity, looking out for others etc) then you (not you specifically, but anyone) will know deep inside that shooting dead bodies (for instance) or swearing on server or accusing a respected dMw member of cheating (for example) is not right.

By the way Free and d|s, do you mind me asking, have you been to a LAN?

Perhaps a LAN visit is due if you haven't? (shameless plug for what is an awesome weekend of 'bonding' and watching Sheepy go through the weekend totally smashed!) hehehehe :D

Anyways, that's all for now. :eyebrow:
