Thread started here for those who wish to voice an opinion on the subject.  Discuss. :)

Quote from: DuvelAs said, TCS can't be played on a GG-server.

I don't think that's necessarily true.  Putting aside the possibility that GG weapon progression in a TCS game might be an interesting diversion for a 'fun' session... a server doesn't have to be exclusively Gungame.  The main Gungame mod uses EventScripts which makes it very easy to load and unload scripts which can completely change the game-type being played.  So you could easily load up Gungame for a few fun maps, then unload it; I've seen setups where scripts (like Gungame) can be loaded and unloaded depending on the current map in the rotation, and even setups where players can vote to turn on Gungame (or any other script) for a while.  Not suggesting those options would be appropriate for dMw servers but it does show how flexible it can be.  (As a side note, the TCS mod I am developing just now also uses EventScripts, so providing that turns out successfully, EventScripts would already be available on the server :)).

On the subject of whether Gungame is worth playing in the first place - I don't think it's as much of a killfest as people make out.  Players who rush headfirst into the opposition almost always die first and rarely end up winning.  It's true that teamplay usually takes a back seat on typical gungame maps, but I think if teamplay were encouraged it could be quite interesting (and you don't have to play gg maps, in any case).

I also think that many people could benefit from playing some gungame, I know it definitely taught me the value of being able to kill an enemy with the minimum number of rounds from any weapon.  If you can't do that consistently while keeping your head, you'll often be swamped by enemies in gungame, and it's a skill that can make all the difference in regular games too.  Gungame maps are also good for sharpening hearing skills as there tend to be lots of walls to anticipate people appearing round. :D

Personally, I'd be in favour of the occasional gungame session, if enough people were interested.

All in favour say I (ive always wanted to say that :yahoo:)

Lol, it would definatly help peoples reactions and short range snipering! And playing gungame as a team? maybe you could make a script where THE TEAM has to get to a certain amount of kills to move on to the next weapon?

Could be an interesting idea. I was trying to think of ways to make it more of a team effort while I was typing too. :)

I'm not a huge fan of gun game...I tend to get stuck for a few rounds on a lame weapon and get frustrated.

Jabbs

I enjoy GunGame as it does increase ones desire to win, it helps your skills with weapons and also with ones reactions.  Generally, I like GG and think it should be added as an option if we can.

While Team Play is our 'standard', we shouldn't dismiss any thought of increasing and encouraging individual skills.  After all it's those skills that will help your team to win! :D

Good idea!

This is true, but this is where you have to use your head and your knowldege of the gun in question.  If you are stuck on the TMP, what are it's strong points?  Close range rapid fire?  Then hang back and wait a while, most likely your enemies are low on health when they meet you around the corner of a building and they are yours for the taking! :D

The pros and cons of GunGame in so far as i see it are:

1) Maps can last quite a long time so if you join half way through and you are on the peashooter :rolleyes: then you will probably find it very hard to get anywhere in the match at all and you will find it frustrating.  It can be done but it's hard.  Just remember that to win the map, you have to lastly get a nade kill and then knife and therefore a lot of people will get stuck on those.

2) GG definitely improves your gun skills (not to mention nade and knife too!) and reaction times.  Very very worth it if you want to get better in those two areas!

3) GunGame is essentially an individuals game.  If we restrict this to say Meathook on a Saturday night for example, then we might not get the frag hunters in that we would if we had GG on Boomer.

If as Jewelz has said it could be customised to be a teamplay game (another first for dMw?), TeamGunGame :D then we would be on to something cool I am very sure!

Just told Jabbs this over MSN;
You can improve your reactions and such easily on MH.
First of all have a look here (if you're able to);
http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=75
All kinds of tactics there and if I'm correct there's even posts about how to use nades and the knife but also on how to move and aim (people seem to forget this side of the forum).

I don't think that a GG-server would be anything for -=[dMw]=-.
I've played it alot and on all servers I played it seemed to be everyone for himself. I only play it so I can be better with different guns as Jabbs stated.
On a GG-server it's all about getting the most kills and I don't think it fits with -=[dMw]=-.

Why I replied in n00bs previous thread;
I did hear that there were some nights of Zombie shooting on the server (haven't seen it myself), but I have to say that the setup I've played on the server I mentioned earlier this week is really good.
No high ground allowed where zombies can't go and when people didn't help eachother out the CT's would all get killed.
As the serveradmin stated, it's a new setup for zombieserver.
Teamwork is necessary for victory there...

@ N00b, sorry that they kept posting in your previous thread. I didn't reply there anymore because if was offtopic.

Gone_Away

I'm against it. GG is a single-player win. While team play comes into it, it's only a minor part of the game.

Good idea for the LAN as it's a bit o' fun however. Don't get me wrong I'll get on and play GG on other servers but it just doesn't go with our community.

Luminance

Maybe instead of making it all about games, make it all about the bomb.

Defusing the bomb, all CT's get better gun (note the gun part, don't start with pistols, or maybe only one pistol [deagle]). Or when the bomb explodes, all T's get better guns.

Don't know if this is even possible, but this is just a first thought.

As for a normal GG, I'm against
As for a team GG, neutral

to save me googling.

I guess it's just restricted weapons? Sounds like a laugh if the team can be restricted.....all mp5's or whatever.

You start with pistols, glock, other pistols...tmp, mp5 etc...
This builds up untill you have a scout, after that a nade and finally have to knife someone...

Basically everyone starts on the same gun, you need to kill with that gun to procress to the next.

There are other options:
 - A knife kill will steal a level from someone
 - Only 1 level can be gained per round (exception to knife kills)/Level on every kill.
 - Instant Respawn

My Opinion:

I don't think there are enough dMwers interested in GG to warrant its own server, it will just end up like TF2 etc. I can't see it going on MH/Boomer for the same reason.

I also think team balancing a Map objective oriented Gun Game would be a nightmare. It just wouldn't be fun unless you started with good guns and worked to pistols/knife. At least that way it would penalise the great players and not making it incredibly difficult for the drunk/newbie.

There must be a way to do that?

I should think so, the last 2 weapons in most gun games are the grenade and knife. I always get stuck on the grenade. Everyone catches up.
