DuVeL

Post is correct.
I was pointing to people who might also read this that we do need serverfunding and that we use it for the forums and servers.

Gandy - I'm aware of the backups but they only affect me just after midnight. This treacly episode was 22:30 - 22:50. :g:

There are filesystem backups too, and one is monthly and starts at 22:22 so it looks like that one is what caused it.

AHA! See? An explanation. Sorted. :D

Quote from: Gandalf;243167nope, all servers are connected with a dedicated 100mb connection.

The slowdowns will be due to the nightly backups that occur on the webserver. It's just the way it is and they are not going to be disabled so just go to bed and stop browsing!

Thanks for clarification.

Can the backups be scheduled for early hours of morning then?

Not really or they'll clash with other backups. That monthly one is a biggie and takes quite a few hours to complete. It's only once a month anyway so isn't too much of an issue.

If it's only monthly and the last one was on the 1st September, why is doing the same ole stuff on the 22nd?
I'm only asking.

What time? If it's from midnight to the early hours of the morning then it's the standard weekly backups that, among others, backs up this website.

I could stop them of course, but a server crash would wipe out the community forums, which I'm sure you'd rather not happen.

The forum and website started lagging at about 7pm last night and was unusable for me. I tried to make a post in here about the problem but I couldn't even do that.

the game servers were fine and tracerts to the web/forum IP were fine so it must have been an issue on the server side of the NIC.

Gandalf

strange, just checked through the server logs and there is nothing showing that would indicate an issue. As the webserver and gameservers are on the same firewall, though seperated via a vlan, any network issues would affect all so I believe it rules out that.

I'll have a more detailed trawl through the logs to see if anything crops up.

This may help:

The banner and top menu always came up pretty quickly, it seemed to be the database driven content that was slow (and it's doing it again just now)

seems ok here too and no errors in the mysql log.

I'll run a verify on the db tables to see if anything crops up.
