It's 22:39 and the forum has been very slow to respond for about the last ten minutes. Other sites are fine.

Anyone else noticing this?

Huh? Am I being dumb?

Maybe the slowness happens when the game servers are full? Lot of network activity etc? people downloading new maps all that kind of thing?

Forum hosted on different physical box.

game servers have more horsepower than you can shake a stick at.

Slow response happens once in a while. Usually gone the day after.

However I was talking about the network? The Internet connection etc?  I know the boxes are uber powerful so it didn't enter my mind.

If a map is being downloaded by half a dozen people for instance, then surely it's gonna have an impact on the 'lag' of other boxes on the server (i.e. teh web server).

The thing is, when people are at the LAN they usually pay for serverfunding and so.
What some people don't know is that -=[dMw]=- doesn't ask for a regular pay but it still needs to be financed (sorry about spelling, tad drunk here)

As in some clans you need to pay for servers and such.
-=[dMw]=- has it arranged but it goes all of the communityfunding.
Every LAN people pay for the serverfunds. Instead of paying a fund every month, we do it more like; If you can spare something for serverfunding it's all good.

So everyting that is aranged is good but do think about this stuff isn't for free.

My last syrupwaffle winning and more all went to the servercause as I know I could spare it and it goes to a good cause.
Think about that.
What the -=[dMw]=-  comunity does for and what you can do to it!

I think the:

may be a clue as to the cause.

nope, all servers are connected with a dedicated 100mb connection.

The slowdowns will be due to the nightly backups that occur on the webserver. It's just the way it is and they are not going to be disabled so just go to bed and stop browsing!

DuVel's reply is in context when talking about what we have in terms of hardware/bandwidth, how we fund it and is that a restriction that contributes to poor perfomance. As Gandy has said, no it isn't.

Gandy - I'm aware of the backups but they only affect me just after midnight. This treacly episode was 22:30 - 22:50. :g:
