OldBloke - I have moved this post here while we find out if Xenon is using a cheat.

A quick google search showed me that there are dozens of no recoil scripts available for CoD4 - many claim to be detection proof. I guess the only way round this would be to spectate people

Oh dear, I really must take naivety mode off. Trouble is, I've been brainwashed by dMw into believing that cheating simply doesn't happen on our servers. :doh: Is CoD4 public yet? Hope not.

I've seen that in the last day or so Xenon has posted like 20 posts on different things, old subjects as well as new. But I didnt read them properly, but it looks a little serious and we should definatly investigate further. But the no recoil script might explain the reason why his scope didnt move the other night when I specced him once when we were on the same team. It might be nothing tho, but we need to look into it.

Not necessaril but someone else might be using his key - we cant tell either way.

I think we will have to be tread carefully on this one.

I have PM'd Xenon and he has replied saying that he doesn't use cheats. He has been told not to promote or use them. His English is not great (my Hungarian is non existant) but he has understood what is expected of him.

Does he cheat? Who knows. But because a seed of doubt has been sown it is obvious he will be closely watched by us all. So a word of caution ... not everyone who looks like they're cheating ... are cheating. There are many things that look suspicious but can be attributed to innocent things like lag or even blinding skill. But if you get accustomed to the amount of recoil exhibited by the different weapons then you will soon spot the 'no recoil' hack. If you do suspect someone then get another admin to confirm before taking action.

In all honesty we will probably never get to see a regular cheat on our servers - even the public ones. Cheats are almost always fraghunters and they would be dealt with for this alone - long before they were suspected of using hacks.

Anyway, I agree OB, we need to be cautious how we proceed and dont take any rash desicions.

This may be of use

Q: How do I record a demo of my game?
A: Simply type "/record " in the console to begin recording, and "/stoprecord" to finish. The lower left corner of the screen will display the size of the file during the recording.

Q: Where can I find my demo files?
A: The demo files will be stored in your "Call Of Duty 4/main/demos" folder

Q: How to I view my demos?
A1: The way it is supposed to work is that you type "/demo " in the console, but this is bugged and does not work (in version 1.4). Instead you can use a third party program to launch the demos, like COD4Player from Cybopat, which also allows you to change playback speed and camera angle. To stop the playback type /disconnect in the console
A2:

Go to "C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\Mods\ModWarfare" and create a folder called "demos". Open that folder and paste "test.dm_1". (your COD4 folder may be located differently)
Open CoD4 Multiplayer back up, and click the Mods button at the main menu. Select "ModWarfare" and press Launch. Call of Duty should restart, this time with a blueish tint.
Now, open up the console and type "/demo ". Your demo will now be loaded and played back. There are no control functions (pause, rewind, etc.)
Type /disconnect to close out of your demo.
