QuoteBecause Google Mail doesn't recognise dots as characters within usernames, adding or removing dots from a Google Mail address won't change the actual destination address. Messages sent to yourusername@googlemail.com, your.username@googlemail.com and y.o.u.r.u.s.e.r.n.a.m.e@googlemail.com are all delivered to your Inbox, and only yours.

What a good idea. My wife is always getting email for a 'same name, no dot' email address on BTOpenworld. Shame other providers didn't adopt this system.

Yeah, really neat idea. IIRC Jamoe did a post about this a while back and how he used it to sort emails? :)

thats cool. I'm sure people can suggest names which when punctuated differently have hilariously different meanings.

Don't forget you can use

yourname+@gmail.com

So sending an email to "yourname+deadmenwalking@gmail.com" would make it to the inbox of "yourname@gmail.com".  You can use this for tracking purposes when registering for online services and you'll know if you get spam mail from some other place where the email address was harvested from.
