Alpha Bravo Charlie

As I stated in another thread I think it adds value to the community to have achievable levels of membership. We already have the ABC system in place so what I'd like to achieve is a means of keeping it but for the entry criteria to be based on our new badge system.

So here's an initial stab at it ...

Alpha Company

Anyone who has successfully applied for access to our forums and servers is automatically a member of the community's Alpha Company. Alpha Company membership gives you access to the Dead Men Walking servers, the Dead Men Walking area of the forums along with the opportunity to join us at our LAN parties. Alpha Company membership does NOT entitle you to use any Dead Men Walking gaming tag and you must not use it under any circumstances. The ONLY exception to this rule is where you have been invited to be a triallist where you will be allowed to wear a designated tag.

Bravo Company

Any member who has achieved at least one full gaming badge will be considered to be a member of Bravo Company. Bravo Company membership entitles you to use the appropriate tag in your player name, wherever you chose to play. This in turn helps us promote our style of play and further our cause! Dead Men Walking accepts that Bravo Company members are allowed to be members of other clans/communities as well, but we ask that in such cases you only wear our tag when playing on our servers. Bravo Company members have access to the private Bravo Company Secure Channel area of the forums, advance booking notice for our LAN parties and can progress to Charlie Company membership if they meet the appropriate criteria.

Charlie Company

Charlie Company members are committed to the continuing success of both the dMw community and its ethos. Charlie Company members have demonstrated a mature and positive approach to the community and as such are valued by their quality as teamplayers and community members rather than by measuring their personal stats from the game servers. We expect a mature and exemplary standard of behaviour from Charlie Company members at all times and in all places. Members of Charlie Company are active contributors of quality content to the forums, regulars on our gaming servers and champions of our ethos. Charlie Company members are also eligible to represent dMw in competitions, however the wish to compete in league, cup or other matches is not a requirement for Charlie Company membership. Charlie Company members have access to the Charlie Company Secure Channel area of the forums. To become a member of Charlie Company a member must hold at least one gaming badge, a forum badge and be a supporting member.

Regarding Bravo.

You're saying that you're now able to wear your tag across all the gaming platforms rather than only the ones you've been made Bravo in?

Are we scrapping the .dMw idea after one's name then?

Nope. If you have a game badge then you can wear the .dMw tag after your name when playing in a different section to the one where the badge was awarded.

That detail would be in the 'Awards' section. This is just criteria for ABC membership.

This also seems to hinge on getting a forum badge. Penfold and I were not planning on giving this one out to anyone other than serious, committed forum posters. I'm concerned because some of our longest standing and most respected members are not much for forum posts. While they may well have Charlie status for historic reasons and because they are active ambassadors on the servers, they're not going to have the forum badge to go with it. Therefore I'd not make that badge a requirement IMHO

For example by my rules I wouldn't get a forum badge :blink:

I think it causes too much confusion, are you a Charlie? No but I have a badge!

Seems like a set of levels too much :g:

I think the forum badge should be a requirement as it's the hub of the community. If your not active on the forum then you shouldn't get the full member status (Charlie if we're keeping it that).

If you wouldn't get a forum badge then I think your rules are too strict :flirty:

OK. What I'm trying to keep is the sense of achievement and progression through the ranks we had with the old ABC system. The badges can be used to identify those members who go the extra mile for the community - but they sit there in isolation i.e. you can achieve a Red Badge in a game but, if you've got nothing else, what are you?

What I'd like to be able to do is group them as enablers for ranking under ABC. But to do this there needs, as Whitey said, for there to be recognition for the rank and file for forum quality. Just as someone can progress through the badges in gaming then I was hoping to convince Smilo and Pen that the same can be applied for forum activity. Then we can say that to be a Charlie you need to have game, forum and supporter badges. The benefits of actually being a Charlie are as they've always been - it's a recognition of your having the 'right stuff' that marks you out as being a full dMw member.

That seems clearer - we will need to have this very clearly laid out before announcing it or it is going to cause lots of confusion

In essence, that's making Charlie's people who qualify the golden member award. We said that to earn the Gold Member award, you need one game badge, a LAN Attendee or Supporting Member badge and Forum badge. We then latterly added the folding badge. So there is an argument about combining them.

However, there could well be some numpty's who do the above but are still not right stuff to be Charlie members ..... so perhaps they do need to be very separate.

I have no idea how anyone would be able to monitor every poster on the forum and rate their contributions on a continuous basis so that the forum badge was awarded consistently and kept current unless we make it very exclusive. We've had 2612 posts so far this month. If someone wants to monitor that lot for quality then you have my total admiration

I always saw the forum badge as being something that went to 'content providers' rather than forum posters. It was for people who actually added stuff worth reading and that encouraged people to come here to read it. i never saw it as a badge for the rank and file. We have 170 odd active users and I imagined about a dozen or so would have the badge?
