I tried installing it under Vista, and it told me 'I'm just going to install DX9 as you don't have it, k?' So I stopped the install. Does anyone know if you can run multiple DirectX versions alongside each other, cos i'm already running DirectX10 and don't really want it to roll back just to play the demo.

Mal: Define interesting...
Wash: Oh god, oh god, we\'re all going to die?

Just let it do its thing, all the games try to install it, CoD4 etc. It doesn't cause a prob (BBB and I are both on Vista 64)

All this talk of FEAR2 reminded me that I never got around to playing FEAR so I ordered the platinum edition from Game (FEAR + both expansion packs for £15) and have found it to be really rather good.

The start and end of FEAR were great but it did become a bit "samey" in the middle. Worth persevering through it though :)

Just played the demo, and IT WAS AWESOME! Can't make me any more happier than with a mobile armour :yahoo:
And also I just remembered that I played the first one only to half way because of a bad computer, so I play it again or just read the story through ?

I played through the first fear and apart from the controls being a bit bit awkward did find it a bit samey as BB pointed out in the middle parts the endless corridors were a bit boring but getting to the end it indeed got better. On playing the expansions these too were good but again as with the cod series were not made by the original developers. Perseus mandate had poor textures and often glitches to the sky and combat areas making enemies disappear which was a shame. The building models were also poor with little realism to the environments outside such as windows with the same texture copying over and over again.

The one thing i loved about fear games were the mini walking turrets and the heavy duty soldiers which on dying made a satisfying communication ending beep. I also love the nail gun best gun i'd say in the game!

Hopefully fear 2 will be good. Pc zone gave it 80% overall and said the action was excellen, environments again samey with the cover system often not working properly. Also it said it lacked the original fear flare.

Liberator

Just played the demo and glad to see that they have written a game that can still give me the willies.

You hear the music and you're afraid to turn around in case Almas' there.

Shudder.

The bit that got me was when she suddenly appears in front of you!

GhostMjr

I remember climbing a ladder in the original fear and looking straight forward and she was crouching looking straight at me at the top of the ladder.

Ohhh yes, I remember that bit, made me jump! Also remember playing at 2 in the morning in the dark with headphones on and my wife putting a hand on my shoulder. I left a sizeable dent in the (12 ft high) ceiling......
Looking forward to being scared witless again (I think)

BrotherTobious

Yeah soo looking forward to playing this not been this scared since the first.  Bring on the brown trousers!!!

OK, I'm convinced by the demo, despite some visual artefacts letting the side down. Parts had the hairs standing on end, and one encounter with Alma raised a loud FFS, and a rebuke from the better half. Roll on the 13th.....

Bastet

I have beaten the game now, and while its a killer game (you get tons of background info) its not quiet as scary as the first one. There are however plenty of hairraising moments :norty:
