My role here at dMw is to ensure that our reputation for fairplay and mature attitude is upheld. We have a set of guidelines that set out to ensure that we only promote the right people i.e. award them badges.

I have noticed that these guidelines are not being fully adhered to and there are promotions happening that are either too soon or involve people with no record of using voice comms.

Standards are essential to our continuing good standing and they must not be ignored. Just remember, when you award a gaming badge you are, under the old scheme, making someone a 'Charlie'. There must not be any watering down of that accolade and I will be monitoring things closely to ensure that there isn't.

SHs must run their sections as part of dMw and not in isolation. The rules are there and they must be followed.

Good stuff.

Given that Doggers never speaks can we have our badges back off him?

Twat!

Oh and another thing ....

When you are considering awarding a badge ask the intended recipient if they actually want it. :eyebrow:

From here on I'll post in the L4D forum for proposed badgee's to get it back to Charlie standard.

My intention was to remove badges of those that don't play often. My original award stated it was a privilege not a right. If anyone thinks I've awarded in error please do let me know and I'll address it.

Ta (but agree wholeheartedly with the posts above)

Benny we can't remove badges just because people haven't played for a while. a badge is a bit like a dog

Benny

I wasn't thinking weeks, more like a refresh every 6 months or so. I'm not removing any yet and will post to discuss if it ever comes up.

Removal of badge for inactivity or anything else for that matter is not something we've discussed. I'll start a new thread for that.

It's important to fully understand that the onus on determining someone's measure of 'right stuff' lies fully on the shoulders of the SH who awards the first gaming badge. This is because it signifies to the other SHs that the person has passed the entrance criteria. So when they play a different game and are seen to keep there noses clean that SH has less problem awarding a badge to them. An obvious example would be a badged player moving from CSS to CoD4.

So if you are that SH awarding a first gaming badge then please be aware of the responsibility you have in ensuring we are promoting fair players who, without exception, match the entry criteria.

I've been out for most of the day and there's a lot of posts to catch up on.

Regarding this topic, I'll speak for Delanvital as he has no voice here (as you know he's been asking me to award the folding badges as he hasn't got the necessary rights). He sent me this PM today

Quote from: delanvitalHi mate,

To be awarded the sub-500k badge:
[BIG]Magnus
DimSum
To have the badge removed, no activity at all for the whole of February:
Liberator
Whitey
DFor
Thulsa
Wordan
Lee
b00n
Romus
Do you think I should do a post listing who has had the badge removed, or is that inappropriate?

Moved into 500+ badge category:

There are no users who has moved into the 500+ badge category this month

Regards,

delan

That's his take on it.

I was planning on going back to him and saying that one month's inactivity is too strict imo as there's plenty of reasons someone could stop folding for on a temporary basis. Although I do think it's right after a certain period of inactivity - say 3 months. That said, I presume it's his call?

Not sure what I'm meant to tell him now tbh.

For my part - the LAN badge is for people who have turned up to a LAN in the last year. I've always maintained it at that and I'm keen to keep it to that. Come April - anyone who hasn't attended since last April's LAN loses their badge. OK?

Whitey

Although I'm not actively folding at the moment, I feel that it's shocking to have my badge removed after the amount of time and effort I've put into F@H in dMw over the last few years :crying:

I have to say I agree which is why I haven't done it.

I'll have a word with Delan.

Had a reply, here's the gist of it:

Quote from: delanvitalHi mate,

In retrospect, I was too hasty. I will change the procedure and contact each person individually via PM.

That said, I did contact Whitey - twice - since he is such a dedicated folder in the past, and a guy I chat with from time to time, but with no response.

One was via a PM, other was MSN. Neither he responded to and I figured he was not interested anymore.

He was of course really sad today and left me an offline msn message... I am now trying to explain to him that I did in fact try to get an answers and has sent him a PM.

Regardless, cheers for holding me back mate. What I don't **** up these days...

Regards,

delan

He said he'll rethink it and then come back with his thoughts.

Update:

QuoteOkay.

I plan on sending a humorous PM out to the folders gone inactive, encouraging them to go active again and then take it from there, based on their response. If they fail to respond, I will remove them, after a set period of time. FYI - i will send the PM to you as well, even though you fold, so you have an idea on how I approach it.

The actual process, i.e. how long time they should be inactive before the mail, how long time to respond to my PM, and whether I should re-send the e-mail, I will think about...

Also, the idea of the folding titans, such as Whitey, permanently receiving the badge,  is really good and I like it :D I will talk to Duvel about it and get back to you. I am thinking that when you go past the 1 mill you enter the hall of folding fame and get to keep the badge regardless of activity. I will get back to you after talking to big Pete.

I sure wish I could have more groups, i.e. more folding icons, and could have a folding legend hall of fame icon for those reaching the million... the cap at 500k for the red was because I had to keep it realistic - how many do we have with 1 million now, right? But, 1 million we honoured before, and I feel we should again. Could you reconsider adding an additional badge for hall of fame? I dunno, silver, blue, white, I could ask Zoot to do the badge if you give me the green light on that... and administering the group would be very easy - so few people who reach the 1 million... I should be a salesman, eh?

Regards,

delan

1 million should be recognised - tremendous achievement

Penfold

I agree.

Is there any objection to having an additional badge for those people reaching one million? I know it falls out side the current structure but as Mike suggest, it's a great milestone.

If we need to keep it green/red/gold format then I think we can adapt the red one to incorporate a star or something similar to differentiate it. The Million+ award would be permanent regardless of folding activity.

Seems like a very sensible suggestion. The new badge needs to plug into the Gandy script of course.
