So I bought one of the above - "logitech premium USB headset 300" I believe it is.

Only problem is that the microphone is very quiet, despite the windows mixer being up to full. There is no +20dB check box in the mixer for this item like there normally is for microphone channels, and the levels are very annoying.

I seem to have had _some_ success with fiddling the voice_maxgain parameter in the CS config/console, but I'm not entirely sure if this is doing what I think it is (especially as I haven't figured out how voice_avggain relates to this yet).

Anybody else come across this? Any registry hacks you know to get the +20dB checkbox added to this windows mixer channel?

Any help gratefully received.

Easy solution, simply shout down the mic....

I usually have a sleeping baby in a room 3 metres away, so shouting might go down badly with the missus unfortunately, despite my frequent urges to scream down the microphone.

I don't expect to be able to whisper, but I do think I should be able to talk normally and get sufficient gain to see the level meters move.

It sounds to me (ouch!) that it's a problem with your soundcard drivers not your headset.

Have you tried installing the latest version?

It's a USB headset, so there are no soundcard drivers - it's the default Windows "USB Audio Device" drivers, and logitech's website shows no indication of there being any drivers available for headsets.

thanks,

Hmmm
I remember having  a similar problem with this kind of thing.

I solved it by installing GAMEVOICE.

It as the +20 thingy as an option in its setup.

I set it up in that.
Then never used the prog.
But it seemd to cure the MIC problem for CS.

I've had a look through my registry and can only find keys for boost under the entries for my sound card software - nowhere else. You may want to have a look through registry. If you have an Audigy card and run XP I can tell you the key settings I have.
