I spent a most enjoyable day at Snetterton today in the company of Doorman. We were there to watch Door's friend Jim race his MGB around the track (a fine win and a DNF) but we also got to watch some fine single-seater F2000 and Formula Ford action and 2 races featuring the Kumho BMWs. What a bunch of nutters :D The first race was fairly incident free with an excellent win by Garrie Whittaker who recovered from 11th place after a  spin. The second race was supposed to be a 12 lapper. It was red flagged after one lap after Garrie and A.N.Other had an incident into T1 resulting in their cars being left stranded in a precarious position. Now Doors and I saw the red flags being waved and I reckon most of the spectators around us did too but I swear not one of the drivers tearing into the chicane before the main straight did. How they all managed to slow down and stop on the grid was a bloody miracle and great to watch:D So the race was restarted (now a 9 lapper) and as they all charged into the chicane for the 2nd time KABOOM! huge shunt. Glass and oily fluids everywhere but all the cars miraculously get through. But the race needed to be stopped again and, because they all got it wrong the previous time, the red flags were delayed until the cars were approaching the chicane again :roflmao: This time the marshalls were physically jumping up and down and waving their arms in a vain attempt to draw attention to the waved red flags  The drivers were having none of it. Again they were all going at full pelt into the chicane which, of course, is covered in oil, glass and bits of BMW. Doors and I were at maximum OMG! and waiting for the imminent carnage. But just as they had the first time the drivers managed to avoid any serious 'coming togethers' with just a couple of spectacular spins being the outcome. The race was restarted as a 5 lapper which was incident free. Boo. :D

A great day out and my thanks to Jim for the ticket and Doors for the company :thumb:

Sounds like good fun. I love days like that, especially Copenhagen Gran Prix where they drive classical cars around a part in the middle of the city, closed for the event.

vobler

Wish I was there guys! Lucky you! Sound like you had a great time! :D

Gnomie

Aye, that sounded like fun! :) I've never actually specated a race in real life before. That's high on my to-do list! Sadly there isn't much to choose from in Norway. Maybe next year when I'm going south as an exchange student..!

Penfold

WoW Superb.

Sounds like fun.

Doorman

Fine report Oldie. After you left, I wandered up to T1 and stood talking to a BMW driver. He said it was the worst race he'd ever been in. I asked him what he thought was the reason for all the carnage was. He reckoned, a lot of new drivers and a lot of old drivers returning to the sport thinking they could still hack it. :sideways:
I then asked what he was doing hanging around T1. He said he was waiting to collect some bits that fell off his car when he hit someone in the arse! :roflmao: Not your fault of course, I said....You won't believe his straight faced answer

No, he braked too early.

Jim, by the way, dropped the clutch at the start, there was an almighty bang, the sound of a drive shaft winging it's way to driveshaft heaven. :crying:

You've not been racing recently I reckon. Terrific restaurant, where we had a first class breakfast and the toilets are of the flush variety :narnar:

Small update: My face is like a bloody lobster! Not from high BP but from being in the Norfolk sun all day.
