Thanks for the link bookmarked for next years renewal :D

Continuing this discussion as early June is here and I am starting to see the odd shop or two say they have stock fo the HTC Touch Pro2.

My original plan was to consider buying from Orange as that's who I am with, but Smilo made an excellent point about upgradeable software on the devices and it has really got me thinking.  I can see the logic in having an unlocked phone, but £500 is a big ask for the benefit of the unlocked phone, particularly when voided warranties are mentioned.

I'm left confused and still wanting a new phone.  I'm after the ability to synch to Outlook properly, email and document control and the nice screen with an unlimited data pay-monthly package.  All 3 phones seem to offer the possibilities, an Orange HTC Touch Pro2 might deliver it cheapest but then I miss out on the OS update as mentioned by Smilo.  Bah, I hate not knowing what decision to make....

....and now we can add the iPhone 3GS to the discussion, announced two days ago.  Some of those 'wanted' features are included Smilo....

Some nice features. Although it still amazes me that Apple are crowing about 'new' features that most other top end mobile phones have had as standard for several years. Cut and paste? Video capture? And a 3 meg camera? My old Nokia N95 has a 5 meg camera and my mates Sony has an 8 meg one!

But still no proper qwerty keyboard, which is a bit of a deal breaker for me. However the interface still looks stunning and the Apple Apps Store makes Nokia's Ovi Store look like a joke.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

It's true, I was a little disapointed in the camera included in the iPhone, considering the N95 has a 5MegaPixel one. it's also missing a Flash, and it doesnt allow to record video. Which I thought was pretty poor.

Other than that I love the iPhone.

Is it the iPhone you are refering too? It does have a qwerty keyboard.

I always use Expansys for my unbranded phones.

I am in the same boat. Want to replace my old phone. I have been reading this thread with great interest. I am, however, also left unable to decide. I want a good camera (but dont care about mpix), decent web-browsing (pens iphone was impressive here), a good os with apps (symbian? win?), a chance to read pdf and possiblt doc, email and outlook sync.

...looking at my requirements I know I want a small PC FFS... :frusty:

HTC Magic. I have one and love it. Can do all the above with ease.

Cool :) Would that happen to have WLAN as well?

I am so annoying I know... I want all the features for no money in a large screen phone which is small enough to feel like a phone when talking from it and stuffing it into your pocket

After reading a bit, that does sound like a phone for me. It also seems that tethering is possible on Android so I don't have to go and buy wireless lan for the laptop (even my old w810 can do this). I am almost certain, this will be my choice :)

How are these phones for internet browsing?

I'm specifically thinking of a work related issue where we have an online communications and maintenance system.  The width of the browser window often goes quite wide though.  Would also need to be quick as far as internet stuff goes.  Possible?
Start Folding and get yourself one of those nice new badge thingies, it\'s a good cause.  Check out the stats

UK bods - buy from http://www.mobiles.co.uk as all their phones are unlocked plus they can do official upgrades for O2 and Orange even to phones that the network themselves don't supply.

I'm looking at getting an iphone 3GS for work, it seems to address many of the criticisms levelled ah its predecessor:

- tethering
- video recording
- Tom tom GPS (extra dosh) coming out shortly

and now a cool compass - what more could you want from a phone?
