I find this the hardest thing at the LAN. To walk into the bar and have someone yell - "Hey Pen you daft cu*t" at me across a crowded room makes me die a little inside

We spend a lot of time and effort keeping the hotel happy and this is the one thing that makes me cringe. In the LAN room it's a bit different but in the public areas we have to moderate our talk and behaviour. People pay good money to come for dinner to the OC and I don't want to see their evenings ruined.

Two or three LANs ago for me was the worst. On the Saturday night The OC had a couple of tables in 'our little area' with normal punters (a mistake they haven't repeated I notice) and I was dying a thousand deaths with the language and the discussion about midget porn. In fact I didn't stay long at the table as I felt too embarrassed. OK, I know I'm rather conservative but even so.

I'm all for people having a good time and as I said in the LAN room I think pretty much everything goes... But at least it's contained. In the bar, open areas and restaurants we need to put our foot down but without ruining the general fun of the w/e.

Seconded, something to try to keep on top of when we are in the public areas.

I must be getting old.

There's a time and a place for cursing and in public isn't it.

I'm in total agreement.  There's no need for it and if we want to continue at the same hotel we should be civil in the public areas.  A high profile post on the subject just prior to the LAN will hopefully be enough to stop it and if not then we can send Benny to their room to sort them out.

Also just a little suggestion, swear box? Anyone swearing in the public area should be ridiculed and made to pay a 50p/£1 fine to the lan fund!

it would just make it a little more obvious that we are trying to clamp down on this......suggestions????
