Quote from: Benny;281235From my perspective if you are an admin on any game I'm happy for you to change the l4d server pieces.

I don't think we can have admins from one game Admining other games. Other wise whats the point of the badges.

He's not advocating admining in other games Arm, he's talking about doing server-side stuff.

IMO there's two distinct roles for admins.

1. Playing on the server and making sure it all runs smoothly and making sure that rules are adhered to.
2. Changing the map / server side stuff where needed.

For example, I wouldn't deem to admin in-game in L4D where I'm not an admin but I can't see a problem in changing the map when someone asks me on Steam Friends. This is particularly true on something like L4D where there is limited number of admins available. It wouldn't be an issue on CS or CoD as there's a large pool of people who can make the changes and chances are someone will be online.

This has only came up as twice now I've been asked to change the L4D map when I've left Steam Friends on and haven't been playing anything.

Like I say big difference between changing the map when asked to via  Steam Friends and actively adminning in game.

That's the why I read it anyway but will fall in line with majority view if this is wrong :)

Tread carefully here. I don't want to see random map change requests being squirted at and handled by someone who isn't either a designated admin for the game or a senior.

I see map changes and a like all part of the role of an admin. other wise we could end up without even having a game badge the ability to "admin" a game server.

I'm not sure why L4D should have an admin shortage, as I know a lot of long time dMw players are in to it.

The map cycle should run its course, I wouldn't ever change a map on CS or CoD unless there was a couple of people on and no other people around and I got asked. I know I'm admin on them too but you see my point.

We could assign more admins on L4D but I think the balance works well at present. it's easy to control and is popular. I don't begrudge anyone senior here changing a map at midnight when there are a couple of late stragglers on that want a change.

My point is that you can change a map on cod4, as you are a cod4 admin. Seem like the idea that anyone can change maps make all the badge work pointless.

Here's my 2p's worth...

If there is a problem on the server that would be fixed by a map change or restart (basically unplayable) and a badge holding admin for that game is not around, I see no reason why one of the other admins can't do the deed.  As far as changing the map to suit someones mood, then that should be down to the badge holding admins.  We have map cycles for a reason. :)

Does it count as unplayable if 2 people are stuck playing a versus map?

There's no easy answer. Whether you move to the survival server or instigate a co-op map you're still stuck with 2 bots which is enough for me to call it a night.
