That's a very, very angry man. It sounds to me like a case of uninstalling everything steam and using Regheal to clear out all the registry shite and starting again. I will put a full copy of Regheal on the leech.

Download complete and Cs updated. Steam is the only program that has actually been able to crash XP since I upgraded from ME. So well done to Valve for that.

However I have completed the upgrade and connected to my first 1.6 server. A quick bash on cbble and it wasn't bad.

Of course all the weapons have got the crappy retail names, my buy script (Rze helper) has vanished and I've no skins or sexy guns anymore.

On a more worrying note both dMw servers seem to be down so i hope it's the 1.6 upgrade Doggers is doing and not that Steam has buggered up my original CS 1.5 ?

just wait. in a month or so it'll be pay to play. why else would they need you to be on-line to play it?

Both servers are down because the server install is as slick as the client's

To give credit where credit is due, Oldie has been working on the server install of 1.6 since Friday night.  You can just imagine the sheer fun and enjoyment he has managed to purloin since then.  It's a nasty job and sommebody has to work their way through the 1.6 steaming piles.  Thanks for doing it Oldie.

Give the servers some time to recover and they will be up again.  You won;t have to wait long.

I am uploading the steaminstall_cs.exe (379 Mb) to the leech and it should be there in 60 minutes.

Happy to hear the down servers are due to the update. Unhappy to hear it's being such a pain to sort them out  :(

Spy's tell me that a special off-line version of Steam will issued soon, especially for LAN matches. The pressure being put on Valve by the big Gaming Leagues and their corporate sponsors appears to be considerable . So I imagine that will be addressed soon.

Making it mandatory to play on-line through Steam might be a precursor to charging for playing on-line but I don't think so. CS would die on it's feet if everyone (especially the millions of kids with little or no disposable income who play it) had to pay to connect to a CS server. I for one would drop CS instantly if I had to pay for using a game I had already bought and wanted to play on a server (dMw) that had mothing to do with Valve.

I hope it's just a new way for Valve to sell their products and keep them uptodate without having to deal with publishers or retailers. I'd be worried if I were a game retailer  I guess.

Don't give us that! He loved every minute of it. As did we all, except we only had one computer to update, he's had loads! I say, lucky old OldBloke.

Well done and thanks.

Well I found you on the friends thing. It does take a bleedin age to log on though. I've waited 5 minutes + for a connection.

It does seem to work (pained though I am to admit it)

I am about to join Sadako on this one.
I have reinstalled 8 times now and it will not work. Its newest reason is it is performing illegal operations. I have had to update my password twice as it said it was wrong, the rest of the time it either stops responding (yes i have left it to do its stuff for at least 15 mins) or it wont even start at all. The latest thing seems to be that as soon as i click on any icon in the taskbar it closes, which is weird. I am also getting the internet con. down box. After downloading all day yesterday i atleast got to the point of trying to join a server, even though it would crash or stop responding. When i started it up this afternoon it wont even load, so i tried the steaminstall_cs.exe which caused all the problems listed above. There are plenty more problems but these are all the ones i can remember at this moment.

How are you getting along TL    :P

<_<  It just wants to make you look stupid. (yeah yeah i know not hard)

As soon as i posted i tried it once more and it got to the server screen.  First server i tried didnt work, verification failed, then it worked and i got on a server wahooooooooo.  Wonder if i can do it twice in a row?

Be back to let you know  :P

Ok it didnt work twice in a row, but once in 100 tries is a bargain. I am greatly encouraged.  It has however managed to make my machine as fast as a 486, well almost. Spendid stuff.....
