So you have to download steam installer from one of their register only crappy file sites???

Anyway, I've run the installer and nothing!!!! seems their servers really are steam powered cos the update just aint happening!

Check the other posts for the link to the bigger install file (400Mb +).

The small installer freezes due to the load on the deployment servers.

I have managed to download CS now. I had to restart Steam 4 times before all had been downloaded. Friends list works ... the only thing that doesn't work is that when I connect to a server (or create one) it freezes.

So far I am not all impressed with this. Steam should change name to Scream ...

After two days of poncing about I exist on the Steam database.

Of course I cannot actually connect to Steam or do anything with it, as the network seems to be for ever down.

But it's a start :angry:

When you try to join a server for the firsr time it will take an absolute age to do it's thing. Let it finish.

However, it may just be locked up :lol:

It's failing to connect at all and gives an error message. No firewall issues so I guess it's down

G-man I think you may have been caught up in round 2 of that de-bunked story. As far as I have read so far, there is no spyware in the software. But I still hate it

After careful consideration ....I'm not running it. Spyware or not, it's a complete disaster so far. I'm sticking to 1.5 and will buy CS:CZ.

If that allows me to play CS online great, and if not then I may well give up my CS altogether.

You can always rely on the greed of some company to bugger up the really good things in life.

Im also getting very close to giving up.

I can actually play but the buggy crap im getting is ruining a game i once loved.

Blokes with shields running around flapping their arms, cant type when dead unless i reconnect, sometimes cant move forward (that was only one server so...), takes a loooonnng time to load.....there are about 3,4 more things but ive had enuff so im off to bed.

What utter bollox i bought this in the generations pack ages ago, why dont they go fk themselves with a huge iron rod with a star shaped wooden splinter.

Well I'm downloading the cache files from freenet.de. So fat I'm runing at a respectable

50.6 kb/sec, so I should have it downloaded in a couple of hours.

Everything might work out OK with Steam, once the world and his dog have downloaded the files and the servers have got themselves sorted out.

Then again I've been worried for while now that there's so many people playing CS all over the world, and no one is making any real money out of it. Valve have sold a fair few copies of Half-Life I guess, but apart from that nothing much. I really couldn't believe that we would all be left alone to enjoy our CS while the big corporations went off and lost millions on their MMORPG's and whatever. Sooner or later some idiot will come along and try to lighten our wallets everytime we fancy a game of CS. And in doing so completely destroy the whole thing

Maybe that time is now and maybe it isn't. But sooner or later it'll all go to sh*t
