It's a new programme that makes you dart from sim to sim. First makes you think that sim A is the bees knees, then automatically switches you to another sim (B) and that becomes numero uno. And so on ad infinitum, until you're heartily sick of the lot of 'em! :taz: I need a break.

It's hard to say this without sounding patronising but I do feel that it's a bit of a wild goose chase this quest for the perfect sim. The bottom line? You aint driving a real car yet the purveyors of expensive sim racing kit are all too ready to make you think that you are. Sadly, it's a fact that the racer with the cheapo Logitech wheel can change gear quicker with his plastic paddles than someone with the most robust of H shifters ever will. It's not 'real' but nothing in the sim world is.

Now I'm the first to admit that I'm really speaking from a position of ignorance as I'm the owner of a 2nd-hand DFP (thanks Doors - still working :thumb:) and I've only dabbled briefly with iRacing, netKar and rFactor. LFS works for me as it allows me to race with friends and makes it damn easy to do so and, although not perfect (none are), provides enough good racing that I keep coming back for more.

Hmmm, interesting points. I'm not sure where I stand on all this :g: I've had a 3 month break from LFS now - if you don't count the odd race now and then when I was desperate for some online racing and neither HistorX or nKP had people on 'em - and I'm still tired of it. I don't know what caused it... I think maybe I realized how not-so-great it is after trying the HistorX mod. Coming back to LFS after some intense racing in HistorX was just plain awful for me. Everything about it was horrible, I thought; the graphics, the sounds, the way the cars felt,... everything.

But due to the lack of an online community for HistorX I decided to spend some more time in nKP and signed up for the F1600 series on Race2Play. That made me realize once more that LFS is only very average when it comes to physics and feel. But, like with the HistorX mod, there is very little online racing to be found in nKP outside of organized leagues. Plus it is significantly more "hardcore", and although that may be a good thing, sometimes I want something a bit more "casual" if you will. Just hop in and drive and don't be afraid to do a bit of paintswapping with your opponents; something that just isn't possible with nKP's overly damage prone cars and unreliable netcode.

I just have to agree that nothing so far beats LFS in the "pick up and play" department. No matter what time of day or night, there is always racing to be found on LFS, and it never takes more than a few clicks to join a server and get driving. In the past few weeks I've raced a bit on the LR server that always seems to have a lot of people on it, and while I still think that it looks bad, sounds bad and feels... weird, it is nice to just have some nice close battles with other people. And yesterday I joined the dMr server again to have some fun in the LX6 and well... it was fun. I still had those moments where I went "what the ffffff...!!!???" when the backend would step out incontrollably for no apparent reason but all in all I had a good time. So you can expect to see me a bit more on the LFS server this week.

I also have to practise for the upcoming nKP race at Monaco on Sunday. That one will be interesting, to say the least :flirty: You are still taking part in that one, aren't you Doorz?

As for the HistorX mod, as great as I think it is I think I'm at the point where I've had enough of it for a while. I don't know... Or maybe I'm just bored of the Escort/Capri racing.

Well I wouldn't say I'm completely sick of driving sims right now...BUT I have been spending a large amount of time on COD WAW. The "Tactical Gamer" guys have a MOD that is so good I don't play the original game anymore.
Anyone that is looking for a more realistic Tactical MOD for COD5 should pop over and try it.
Do you want to be my "Friend"?:winkiss:

You guys are all lucky to be able to simrace at all.. I'm having serious withdrawals here now. :lmfao: It's been... what.. three months now since I last raced! I spend what seems like half an hour on youtube every day watching racing stuff. I even tried LFS with a mouse the other day in desperation! (and failed miserably :D)

I'm back from my vacation, but my wheel is broken and I'm waiting for the new one (GT3RS + clubsports) to arrive. It's shipping from Germany this week, so I should have it soon. But not soon enough!

I think I'll start out with mainly rFactor HistorX when I get the wheel, mixed with some LFS racing inbetween. Then I'll see how long that keeps me busy until I turn to iRacing again. :) They all have their strong and weak points. Just a shame that my PC is too bad to let me enjoy any of them fully.
