ive posted in this section not because its a laptop snag but more of a home insurance snag

a few weeks ago my daughter knocked the laptop of the sofa, and since then it has been suffering from
hanging at post bios
freezing during windows startup
random restarts
freezing while in windows which requires a hard restart
freezing and then hard drive and cd start accesing as if they are looking for something but never find it

so i decided to call my home insurance and see if i can claim, well it turns out i can, so they ask me the price, and model and what happened and then say they will phone back on tuesday evening and leave an hour asside for the invest.

problems i got the laptop as some of you will know from winning it at a lan, it was brand new and i dont have a reciept, will that affect the claim as technically i didnt buy it? or would it be the same as a reciving it as a gift. the thing is it feels like im undergoing the spanish iquistion over this and ive never claimed for anything in my life:ranting2:

anyone have any advice on that

does anyone know from experiance would they fix the laptop or new for old it as my policy says they will do

finally anyone have any ideas as of the snag on the lappy as i have already resat cd,hd and memory

cheers

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

It should not make a difference to the claim, but might make them struggle to fill in a 'required' box on their report.  You owned it, you can provide details of how and where it was obtained (even if not the receipt) and you had it insured with them.  Simples.

What Tealeaf said.  With regard to the problem, as a wild stab in the dark I'll go with something damaged on the power regulator / battery connection. :g:

It won't affect your claim. If it were stolen and you had no other record of it, then it might be a problem. It's worth having a list of everything you own and an approximate price backed up somewhere for insurance purposes. It helps when you claim something and it also gives you a rough total of what your stuff is worth so you know how much cover you need. Check with your insurer how much your individual item limit is. Usually around a grand, anything over this you've not disclosed is not properly insured.

As for your laptop, just tell them how you got it and someone will likely tell you how to process the claim properly.

But be assured that if you wish to re-insure next year you will take a hit for it........not a major, as by shopping around, you will find someone else will insure you for considerably less.....as they have not paid the premium......it is a sad world when it does not pay to be loyal, but ho hum!!

Im guessing you have tested the memory and hard drive for faults? Although it seems the issue is with the motherboard.

Replacing the motherboard may be cheaper than claiming on your house insurace especially if you have to pay a excess and penalised next year. And as the item comes under "gift" i dont think you will be able to claim :(
