Looking at a new pc

well really it is about time!

so far looking around ive got a a couple of contenders

How much are you looking to spend? I am guessing you would rather buy a pre-built unit instead of building it yourself?

Really pleased with mine from PC Specialist. I scaled down the HD as I had a spare SATA drive.

I assume you have some bits so make one without the bits you don't need and see where it comes in on the price.

i want a pre built pc as i CBA to make my own this time.

I need a TOTAL new machine as my old one is now at least 3 years old, only thing possibly salvagable is the gfx card which i "think" is a 512mb card.

I will ofc put my old storage hd's in to the new pc

budget is around the Ã,£650 mark, which i think isnt to bad for just the box, hoping that i can get something towards the higher end so that it lasts a good couple of years

Defrag it-twice! Clean some of the pizza and dead mice out of it, run a malware/av programme and shed all the porn! It'll go like a rocket! :norty:

If you go to 'build your own' and go Intel, you can spec an i7 with 4gb and a decent card for Ã,£638.

Assuming you have a screen and a keyboard and mouse you can live with.

Do you have any preference for what kit you have Sheepy? i.e. amd/intel ati/nvidia or are you just after the best you can get for your cash? & what sort of budget are you looking at?

+ what are you running at the mo?

athlon 64 x2 dual
2.41ghz
2gb ram

i dont have any prefrence to kit and im not wanting to build my own again, cant be arsed with the hassel and trying to get my head round stuff again i simply do not have the time or willingness to do it

I have my moments!

I can strongly recommend the i5 750 for a gaming setup, ive purchased one for the missus as a replacement for her stolen rig..
And im quite surprised how well it performs compared to a 920 in games at stock speed..
I was looking at buying a 920 but after trying her 750 ive realised its just as good.. it lacks HT but its Turbo mode sends it above the 920 in gaming.

well i bought a pc from pc specilist, I looked at all the options and even with putting all the components together myself from various sites the cost of the pc to make it myself (or get lion to do it) would have come out as about the same cost anyway (probably a bit more when you take in to account postage) for what I want. and i also then have there warrenty. Also my pc will be with me tomorrow, having only made final decision yesterday so its a lot quicker as well.
