Suprised no one has commented on this one. It's a real blast and the game Unreal 2 never stood a chance of being.

There's a solid story line which although not Oscar material is pretty sound. The graphics are excellent with some stunning landscapes, although the sprites and player models aren't quite as good. Some interior scenes are quite repetitive too.

The AI is truely great in this game with apparently no scripting at all. In fact it could be about the best AI I've ever come across. Enemies hide dodge, flank and generally make life hard as hell for you. And amazingly they rarely do the same thing twice. Should you have to replay a level (there are no real levels as the game prec-caches the next scene..yes NO load screens EVER!), through getting killed, the enemy may appear out of the same drop ship, but will take all kinds of different routes through the scenery, so what you learnt first time around doesn't help much upon replay. The enemy even runs away in good order and hides if they feel out numbered or have seen too many comrades die.  Listen for their chatter too (oddly aliens speak English) as it's often hyserically funny.

The lack of scripting also means you can tackle each "level" in different ways. Maybe snipe from a-far, get up close and personal with an assault rifle or tear-ass about in a jeep letting your gunner take on the baddies. I've played several levels more than once and each time it's been a different experience.

Strangely it feels a bit like playing Giants: Citizen Kabuto as a FPS but don't ask me why :) There's a sense that there is a real set of physical laws at work here. You can jump about the right height, a grenade blows the enemy about the right distance and vehicles behave in a particular way. It's hard to explain but there's a wonderfully satisfying feeling moving around this strange alien world.

This really is a quality game and any self respecting FPS addict should get it now.

More than that it's out NOW. Go buy it :)

However if you have the Xbox version there's nothing much new in the PC one (except the graphics are a bit better)

I'm really enjoying this game. The graphics are superb and it is quite a challenge.

I tried the MP last night and as usual it's full of xxxxx but hopefully I get a better understanding of the game...

Zok

i've not played it but i'm sure its crap

It's actually getting better and better as I progress, and it was always good to start with.

I've found Scorpion Tanks and Banshee Hover Fighter Type Things. There's snow and ice, rainy swamps all all kinds of other goodies.

Apart from Myth, which I never played and Oni, which is a PS game, the developer Bungie have done nothing much before this. So I'm doubly amazed they have made such a belter.

And there is a sweet irony that Valve dropped Gearbox for Ritual as the developer of CS:CZ. Gearbox go and convert this gem to the PC and Ritual go and bork up CS:CZ. Well done Valve...again

Played a couple of missions and i ain't too sure - reminds me too much of Unreal Tournie, and plays too similar to bits of other games like Unreal and AVP.  Nothing much new here.

I'd be more interested in multiplayer after all the rave reviews that element of it got on x-box - anyone played it on-line in any depth?
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better
