Thanks to Mr Logic taking people through the basics of the "Domination" map pack.

Now, as requested by Toby, lets give feedback of the maps.

Liberator

As this was a new type of map code and people were eager to experiment, we were a little disjointed in our approach. something we will hopefully grow out of as we get comfortable with it.

Differing squads appeared to be an issue as it meant that the overall command of the map wasn't visible to the nominated commander. This is more down to the squad allocations of the map and we can probably make changes to that.

Also we found that "Seize" means destroy all enemy location as well as the troops. This was after wandering around looking for enemy before deciding to blow up the tank factory in the centre.

I think a future rule was forming in the minds of the admins to not allow the 2nd mobile to be used as a means to teleport back to the base in future, mainly because this was seen as cheating slightly. Bringing up a chopper and leaving it near the mobile spawn should be enough to allow ferrying of thing back and forth.

Chinook is a definite requirement for getting the mobile up into a safe position.

Implementation of the revive scripts is being looked at to stop having to respawn at base after a death.

I guess we'll have to make up rules as we go along to try and form the playing of the maps to the dMw game play ethos.

I liked the bit where we shot those guys.

More seriously, I think the whole thing hinges on someone coming up with a plan and then effectively communicating it to the other players. Unlike the standalone missions where we have an objective and eveyone just bumbles along, Domination requires a very clearly defined strategy otherwise it decends into chaos.

It's got to be tough job leading this one with lots of players, maybe we should structure it a little differently? Perhaps have a mission commander, who gives orders to squad leaders. Squad leaders then only have to worry about co-ordinating their group.

Is it possible to split the in-game voice comms into seperate channels? Often there are times where I want to communicate something important to the chap I'm stood next to, but I don't want to clutter up the main TS channel with stuff that isn't relevent to anyone else. Maybe we should have 'radio silence' in TS, other than mission leaders talking to squad leaders?

Agreed, it's a loop-hole that we really shouldn't abuse. Loading up a chinook with ammo and flying supply runs is much more fun imo (I'm sure the pilots among us would agree).

I may be wrong, but doesn't double tapping Caps-Lock give you team/squad chat?

using the default key (caps) you can talk on whatever channel you're in at the time. Change channel using the '>' key to talk to squad, global, vehicle, commander I think in that order.

Double tapping caps opens comms and leaves it on.

I like the idea of squad based comms with no chat in the TS channel. Squads are the way to go here....oh, that and getting revive working.

Glad you all enjoyed a dabble with xeno's domination just so you are all aware the settings where quite tight as para drops on public servers are infinite and the tele port back to base is normally enabled for quick rearm, but playing it seriously with the numbers we had [and keen pilots] i think it does not need enabling. Clan settings for domination vary wildly, on some servers promotion is quick along with bonus vehicles with much more air power and tanks available even a c130 gunship with carpet bombs! Radio chatter does become a problem and i think i saw an article on sim hq highlighting there expected conduct and i recommend an admin pm's our guys the link just to let them have a read? http://www.simhq.com/_land2/land_091a.html
Im sure there will be an easier way to split the squads as the teams each had a squad leader which allowed for large or small squads if required, the pilots may be a little trickier, but then a squad per mhq would make sure they looked after it. An overall commander would be good and he could guide through in game chat on the correct channels for control but im not sure he would be heard that clearly. I think we are barely scratching the surface with domination at the moment and many members will enjoy all its features and team play,i recommend a session or 2 on some modded versions on other clans servers to see if there are features we could do with or without. :D

i had fun. i thought some of the targeting issues were interesting but once i got used to them everything was ok. As for destroying everything, yep bit probmatic that one, lib john and I spent a good 20 mins running/flying around looking for any red dots on the map to appear. I then got bored and said lets blow that factory up......bingo mission finished. so Remember to destroy the world and it should be fine. Apart from that i didnt have any real issues as i was ferrying a lot of the time and i dont mind doing that, so im good with tuts idea. Also the mobile as we found out early on needs to be hidden as well, either in trees or among building as random enemy helos will fire at them. As for command  channels on ts look below at the link. On vent you can set up a key binding that lets only certain people, say the team leader in a different channel to hear you , but the rest of the squad dont, yes it means the team leader has to the team and the leader, but the overall leader only listens to his team leaders.

just some thoughts

Read to the bottom

apparently it sort of works

Has anyone got any new suggestions for tactics and game play for Domination im sure some of you will have suggestions and comments after playing it for this long? Just dont want to be seen as the only one having a moan really!!

Benny

moan? right......you've opened the floodgates now.

I suggest...no artillery, one squad leader and everyone else shuts up or gets kicked :)
Focus on sneaky to the target, take the radio tower out and carry on.

Really good mission tonight guys!

It worked well with the team organisation =). Lots of kills and very few deaths.

I would like to point you to the screenshot below of our wedge formation when taking the village.

Was Sulks 'accidently' shot in the back again?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.
