I've just finished Lord of the Rings. That makes about four times I've read the entire trilogy and twice I've struggled through the Silmarilion. I'd like to have a crack at something else of similar stature and epic-ness. So I'm looking for recommendations. Something that spans several books, is a fantasy Tolkienesque story and is good are the requirements. It would also be a huge bonus if the books were on Kindle.

I've already worked through the Sword of Shannara trilogy (bit derivative of LotR) and The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (pretty decent). Any recommendations would be appreciated. Cheers.

The only fantasy stuff I've read are Terry Pratchett novels, most of which are excellent and extremely funny should you fancy a change :)

A good series of books I've found is the books about Eragon by Christopher Paolini http://www.alagaesia.com/
Maybe there\'s something to be said for being different. We are who we are. What more could we ask for?

Wheel of Time

Reading through for the fourth time now. Fantastic series.
Other authors to look out for are Raymond E Feist (Riftwar series) and David Eddings.

Until you get to the bit about heffalumps with coconut wheels. That said I read the bloody lot to teach myself a lesson after I got annoyed at that bit. I could post pages about that series....ooh I feel all bloggy :)

Try the Last Legionary series by Douglas Hill, a bugger to get hold of, a kids book, and superb.

Cheers all, I now have a list. Nice thing is that on the kindle I can try before I buy, so I'll try them and see what floats my boat.  Thanks

First free sample I downloaded was the Wheel of Time Book 1. It certainly piqued my interest so I've bought the Kindle version. Now I've just discovered there are THIRTEEN books in the series! What have I begun?!?

Benny,  nice post. Although rather than put me off I'm now intrigued by wheelie fruit...

Wheel of Time? Bloated, bloated, bloated. Pages and pages of descriptive text about characters who are totally inconsequential. I gave up at book 7 I think but only stuck with it that long in the (vain) hope that it would actually reach a conclusion. The first book's OK but, as a rip off of LOTR, it was bound to be.

If you like scifi then I can recommend Pandora's Star by Peter F Hamilton but having just watched the excellent 'Game of Thrones' I suggest you check out the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series that it's based on. I know I will.

I really enjoyed The Sword of Truth book by Terry Goodkind. One of the few series that I was always looking forward to the next book to be published.
