From the Steam website (the italics are mine):

Offline/LAN Play
Work on offline/LAN play is now nearing completion. To play any Steam game while not connected to the Internet it will only be necessary to let Steam finish downloading all of that game’s content, at which point you’ll be able to play games without connecting to Steam.

Bit late for all them hung over dribbling people, currently sleeping on their keyboards, but at least hopefully they will have it sorted by the next one.

Hopefully they'll have what sorted? The dribbling or the LAN play?

The dribbling  :D   Steam will have imploded before the next Lan.

It may have already. Steam is not fit for purpose and there are many rumours circulating about the number of online CS players having fallen to 50% of pre-Steam figures.

Valve (commonly known as the 'one hit wonder') have not only shot themselves in both feet they have apparently then stuffed them in their mouth.  <_<

Hope for all ... There is a patch 'doing the rounds' that allows for CS 1.5 servers without WONID verification. Don't delete that old Half-Life folder just yet.  ;)

so what does this mean that there are 1.5 servers that dont require wonid verification or something like that...does this mean i get on a 1.6 server through 1.5 or what...god that would be heaven...and oh yeah, i think steam is an evil conspirator against cs bc it certainly did not help it, i hate steam and i hope it dies

1.5 did not need WONID verification for LAN and there was a 'tweak' that meant you could do without the WONID for online play too.  1.6 is different and needs an internet connection atm, until Steam releases the LAN patches.
