Bigger brains than me discovered the satellite mode available at the deployed MVQ last night. Some of you might already know about this beauty but John and Smilodon had a blast combining it with artillery fire from our airfield.

To access satellite mode you need to be standing next to but not in the MVQ. Select Satellite Mode from the MVQ menu. You now get a real time top down view of the world. You can scroll about and there is a single level of zoom. You can also turn on TI which is a sort of black and white night vision system that turns people and vehicles black.

The big plus is that everything is visible on the screen in real time. No icons that may or may not have moved, this is live. All the enemies and all their armour are visible.

The minus points are that you cannot get a mouse over that tells you what you're looking at. So a tank is a tank and may be your tank or the enemies tank. Also you get no idea who the soldiers are. So a tiny figure running across the map might be a player or an NPC enemy. You have to take care calling in targets or you could be responsible for a lot of friendly fire causalities.
And lastly you cannot mark anything on the satellite map. Think of it as a screen you're looking at rather than a GPS or map you're scribbling on. If you want to let team members know where you want them to go or what you want them to fire on you either need to instruct them verbally or come out of satellite view and into map view. You then need to work out on the map where your target on the satellite screen was and mark it as a note.
Finally the screen does not show a large area of the playing zone. You only have one level of zoom (normal to close) so it can be tricky to get a complete overview of the map from the screen.

Anyway try it out and enjoy.

Yeah, we knew about the SAT, but tended not to use it.

We tended to play a town a night and decided to do it with small arms, because we enjoyed the fire fights. As the Admins were usually the ones that ended up in the squad leader position and ended up calling the shots.

But as the map is now persistent and we have more established dMw players, a change of tactics is fine, the mission (although modified by Benny) still retains it's difficulty and available resources, so lets use them, the thing about this mission compared to standard missions, is that it will keep dropping troops until the radio tower is taken out, so the final fire fight for the towns will still be there if we drop the use of arty and air-strikes after the armour has been wiped out.

If that's what the person who takes SL wants.

:)

Sharpened, pointy sticks FTW.
