My laptop came with 3d vision and I haven't really given it a go.

Total Media Center 10 and Roxio 3d Player cineplayer BD haven't ever worked and last night I finally got things working.

Powerdvd 11 was what I had but it didn't support mkv files only physical discs.

VLC still doesn't support 3d but this is in the pipeline.

Physical or iso's worked fine in power dvd 11 but I couldn't find anything that supported mkv files.

So I grabbed powerdvd 12 and now loving mkv and bluray disc 3d films.

Theres not many out there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_3-D_films but its pretty sweet all the same!

Anyone else tried 3d yet on their pc's?

3d vision is the newer technology (side by side) with an older type (red-cyan) still being avilable.

Quote
  • Anaglyphic is an older version of 3D.  It's developed by taking two  identical pictures and removing certain colors from each, then replacing  the two pictures on top of each other, with a slight stagger. The red/cyan or dual colour glasses cause your eye to believe there is depth between the two. Draw backs:  Colors can become distorted. 3D does not seem as in depth.
  • Side-by-Side or more commonly known as SBS is developed by  physically recording the video from two cameras spaced approximately 1.5  inches apart (the same as the human eye). The images are then pasted on  the screen on top of one another with a slight stagger.  The 3D glasses  contain films or crystals that will cause one eye to look slightly to  the left and the other slightly to the right, giving the illusion of 3D.  Drawbacks: If depths on the record or playback are not set correctly, a  ghostly duplicate image can appear in the background of the screen,  known as ghosting.

Only on TV I'm afraid,

Film wise, I recommend Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D as this has both types of 3D (depth and pop out) and it used the Fusion camera system (Same as Avatar), I want to see Avatar in 3D, HD and colours are fantastic, but looks like only Panasonic still have the rights to sell the film with their sets :(

Thanks for the link btw :thumb:

Edit, Reading up on the panasonic deal with Avatar, this was a 2 year deal which expired Feb this year, so the general release will be sometime this year it looks (possible extended edition).
 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

Thanks for the recommendation Snokio.

Resident evil was pretty sweet!

For future reference theres 2d films that have been converted into 3d or those that have been made 3d from the beginning.

The latter is far better!

The best system so far that captures 3d is Fusion.

The full list of films made using Fusion can be found here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_Camera_System

What I am finding is it's not like Disney or theme park specialist shorts where the images trully pop out of the screen. It's more about adding depth to the picture and the odd bullet flying out towards you.

Overall I am really enjoying it!

Any idea whether my laptop receiver can cope with more than one 3d vision set of glasses?
