There's an interesting article here about Apple and their potential demise.

I use an iPhone and iPad. It works for me but I can see why people plumb for the Galaxy and Associated Android ones.

For me, it's too much of a hassle to change at the moment and it would mean a lot of amending our infrastructure (Sound docks, car kits etc etc). As usual, I'll just wait for my free upgrade but I wouldn't spend proper cash on one.

I'm looking seriously at the iPhone 5. I think that the Samsung G3 is too big for my liking. Anything much bigger than my blackberry doesn't appeal tbh.

The iPhone 5 doesn't really do anything special. I'm not an Apple fan, I've got the Samsung S3 myself, but it's always good to have two manufacturers constantly battling each other to make the best products. I was hoping for a new feature rather than playing catch up.

If you don't like the size of something like the S3 I'd have a look at the Lumia 920. It certainly looks like it'll take some beating and Win Phone 8 looks pretty reasonable. No matter what I'd wait a month or two for some proper reviews to come out for both.

There are some serious issues with iOS still...

Syncing being my biggest gripe as you can only Sync to one PC, if you connect to to another..... It formats the phone.

Its not easy to get pictures off it etc.. Bluetoothing files is a no-no.

All of the useful stuff you can do on any other OS is really hard on iOS.

The new iPhone is going to be nicknamed "The iPhone Slightly".
 
 Slightly taller, slightly faster, slightly better battery, slightly different from the last one,  slightly too expensive and as a result, Apple shares are down - slightly!

What the press say:

So far, we haven't seen anything that will make Samsung fear its S3 is  going to be overwhelmed. For those of you that take these things as a  crucial indicator, or have shares yourself Apple's stock price is  currently... down 0.1%

Lots of new features...only available in the USA since Siri is 90% offline outside the states.

Siri - so you cannot voice dial without an internet connection, Super new maps - for the USA and maybe London, 4G - unavailable until next year or later as long as providers here use the same tech used in the USA and of course a new dock connector - not USB 2 or 3 (ha! are you kidding) - a non-compatible propriety connector so you'll have to re-buy all those accessories.

Everything else is iOS6, which every 4th gen iPod, 3GS iPhone or later gets anyway, for free!

Aye, not worth it. Besides, I want a smaller phone not a larger one.

I felt a bit left out, as the Telegraph reporter (especially) was VERY sarcastic and  far from enamoured with Apple's happy-smiley-cheering "high fives for us" rhetoric. The whole "false cheer" thing made PC PRO's journo want to vomit!

Can you think of ANY organisation that would talk about the stone-work on an overseas retail store at a major product launch?

Can you imagine them going "Welcome to the launch of the Nokia Windows 8 phone and we'd like to say a bit about the shiny glass in our new Nokia shop in Uxbridge..." really? Apple are so full of it.

The iPhone 5 is a US targeted smartphone and a VERY small incremental change to the iPhone 4S, which in turn was the bug-fixed version of the iPhone 4...

So if you want to spend £600+ cash for black bars at the top and bottom of all your apps, go crazy!

Why the "5" in iPhone 5? Because you can now have five rows of icons, instead of four... major innovation.

Everything bad about Apple is summed up by the fact that they've changed the dock connector, for no reason other than to force loyal customers to buy all their accessories again.

Thanks T-Bag and everyone else for their input on this. I won't be looking at changing until December so I've plenty of time to consider. With the rate things are going I'm sure they'll be another 4 android models to choose from..

It's only now I think we see the difference between Apple with Steve Jobs and Apple without. Jony Ive is still there of course but I suspect he didn't have the final word in what the iPhone 5 was going to be. This was the version that needed Apple to create one of their OMFG moments when they reveal the product that will have every other manufacturer floundering to catch up with Apples reinvention of the personal computer/communication device (smartphone). Clearly the iPhone 5 isn't it. This must be the first product Apple has launched in a long while that moves them from 'not the best smartphone manufacturer' to 'still not the best smartphone manufacturer'. I just hope Samsung, Sony, Motorola etc can now step into Apples very big shoes and keep driving the industry forward.
