I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

The book was written as a journalistic set of interviews with survivors of the zombie apocalypse 20-ish years later.

The action is viewed from first-hand accounts of the interviewees of the events that transpired. The problems experienced by the UN in containing outbreaks because relatives hid infected individuals, misinformation by various governments labelling the infection "African rabies", a drug company claiming to have a vaccine (Phlanx) when they didn't, the USA failing to control outbreaks because they waited too long to get public money for wide-scale containment measures.
The story is not scary because of zombies, but the idea that such an apocalypse could happen, because the media dismissed the idea it could happen and the governments were scared to act in error and so failed to act at all. Misinformation and denials allowed the epidemic to spread until "The Great Panic" when everyone fled the populated areas and society crumbled.

While zombies are unlikely to crop up any time soon, swap "zombie" for "swine flu" and you might have reason to be genuinely scared reading this book...

How "deep" the film will get, will define whether it is the stand-out tale from the book, or just a US version of 28 days later.

I'll keep my fingers crossed!
