Black Adder - Installation Date

Well folks, at long last we have managed to figure out why the new CPU/RAM/HDD and mobo wouldn't work together and got the darn thing to load Linux

So, I have put the whole kaboodle into a nice large cardboard box and Amtrack will be picking it up tomorrow to deliver to 'Chez Stryker'. Stryker intends to galantly go where no man has gone before (Yes, Manchester) and install the new server (Black Adder) for us this weekend. Fingers crossed, but by Sunday night we should have a spinky new server to play with

For those who can't remember, Black Adder's guts will be made up of a Pentium IV 2.0GHz, 1GB PC2100 DDR RAM, new Western Digital HDD, micro-ATX Epox mobo with onboard LAN, sound and graphics (and a neat little card riser that allows 3 PCI slots to be used), Pioneer slot load DVD/CD reader, and all packaged up in a sexy black lockable 2U server rack case. Panting yet? Yeah, I know :wink:

Long boring story, but suffice it to say that we tested things, we checked things, we found some bits that didn't like be next to each other, we switched a few things around to give them a new home and hey presto - it worked. It only took 2.5 hours as well 8O

Yes, TL started off organising the collection then landed this load of hassle.... plus the expense of amtrack and the cdrom drive.

OK folks. Remember that posting I made on Mon Sep 23, 2002 at 2:06 pm? Yeah, I knew you would. Well the thing is that it was all cobblers. Black-Adder is still causing problems and therefore please don't expect to see the much needed server upgrade installed by the end of today.

Stryker is returning Black-Adder to me (I should have it by Tuesday courtesy of Amtrack) along with the OS install disks. I have told Stryker that I won't send it back until the damn thing is fully working with OS installed. I intend to visit the technician with disks, cheque book, lump mallet and a discrete supply of psychotropic drugs on Tuesday as soon as Amtrack delivers the box to me, so I'll keep you posted on my progress 8O Who would have guessed eh? Just 5 days to raise the funds, 2 months and more to get the darn box working....Grrrrrr! :x
