Me and mom is thinking about buying a android tablet to my dad for christmas, anyone of you got some tips on what one to get for an average user that prob only will be using it for surfing, movie watching etc but that still is decent enough.

Cheers :)

The Amazon Kindle Fire tablets are great value at the moment. I know you're locked to the Amazon market place, but that's fine if it's just browsing!

Not too sure on the regional aspect, but I'm sure it can be set easily enough.

The Nexus 7 is good value, and has had some fantastic reviews.

There are on-and-off rumours that Google are working on a new version of the Nexus 10, with something possibly being announced on Friday. Nothing confirmed, but it might be worth waiting a week to see what happens :)

The Nexus 10 will probably be twice the price of the Nexus 7 but it really does have a superb screen for watching HD content. The Nexus 7 is no slouch either but the smaller screen might be an acquired taste. It's certainly no problem for me and I watch movies on it quite regularly.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

thinking of a nex7 for little_ninj. it's on sale at argos ATM

No idea on your budget but if you can go for a 10" then I think the extra screen real estate would be worth its weight.

Should the new Nexus 10 not appear before Christmas (and it's not looking good), can anyone reccomend an alternative 10" tablet? The current N10 doesn't look to have a long enough battery life for me.

Android preferred. I really, really don't want to go Apple.

Wot 'e said :thumb:

If the tablet won't be used 'on the road' then a 10 inch makes more sense.

...I quite like iPads. They're better for handing to anyone who is slightly tech-averse (android is almost as good now but some people still get scared...) Caveat: my iPad was free from work several years ago so I might not really factor price in.

If it was my money I'd probably buy a nexus, though for a tablet I'd want no less than a 10" screen. Possibly a kindle fire (I don't understand the locking comment above - is that for apps?)

Price apart, there's little to dislike about iPads. I like mine and I use mine and it's great for elderly non-technicals.

I've set up several silver surfers with iPads and not one of them have had any trouble getting to grips with them.

Nexus 10 here.

8.5/10

Pros: It's not an iPad

Cons: It's not an iPad

My Mum bought herself a Kindle Fire HD on some 'special tv offer' and she's struggled to use it.    I lent her a Nexus and she took to it like a duck to water.   Pen's got wrinklies running happily on Apple iPads.     Kindles and iPads have a rep for being easy to use, but these days I think that reputation equally applies to the Nexus range.   I'd thoroughly recommend the Nexus range.

One final point.

I just can't ignore the price.
