You know when you have one of those rare moments of clarity when you're able to organise your holiday a year ahead?   I had one of those last year and booked a great villa with 'pool with a view' in Portugal, flights and car hire for this year's holiday as it was my daughter's last 'family holiday' before going off to university.   Bugger me if we didn't end up booking through Air Parade Ltd which has just announced it has ceased trading. :angry:

So now we have the hassle of an ATOL refund for the villa & flights, a discussion with ATOL as to whether the car hire costs are covered under the ATOL scheme (it was invoiced together with the holiday & flights, but was not explicity mentioned on the ATOL certificate) and if that fails then a nice discussion with the credit card company through whom we made the payment to try to get the car hire amount back.  All in all that's several thousand pounds of annoyance and that doesn't include the hassle of waiting for the refund and having to find a satisfactory replacement holiday this close to our intended travel dates (late July).

What about credit card charge backs?

I assume you were going to Portugal for the sun?  Have you ever been to Malta?

If you're ever considering, I'll see what I can do for you.  Villas with pools and great views are common, although you won't be needing a pool with our beaches.  Heck, you can even stay with me if you want.

And as an additional bonus, alcohol is very cheap here, and comes in very good quality.  Sun and heat is plentiful, and you can cross from one side to the other side in 30 minutes.  And if you prefer history, you'll have enough to get tired of it.

I'm quite sure it won't add up to several thousands of pounds.

If you get sorted in time, we use Solmar Villas for our Algarve holidays. The villas are decently priced.
Sort the flights separate and organise the Hire car from Faro airport website.
